Based on unichip's storey the negativeness is real. Unichip accepts that there was a problem, and although they downplayed it, the problem was big enough to cause them (the sellers) to stop selling. What was also noticeable, and a poor excuse, is that customers were 'too far' to be helped so Unichip could not verify the use or product condition that caused the problems (excepting the one harness that was returned from which definitive conclusions were made )

So yes, there is bonafide negativity, but I have not concluded the current Unichip is junk. The past failures are based on a supposedly poor quality product specific to the R56 application. What I care about is the current and future product because we all want solutions for increased reliable power for our R56s.

From my point of view, the the big questions are:

1) does the unichip platform currently work, and does it have a good reputation in any tuning community?

If the unichip platform has been working for evo, wrx, and other DIY tuners then I would consider the unichip a viable option for an R56 application for what dodgyparker wants; that is, something that can be adjusted on the fly, and can be easily be changed as modifications are added (not expensive retunes).

Not my videos, but a good mix of unichip stuff.

2) Are the problems fixed, and is the fix noticeable/detectable?

Unichips story still has me a little skeptical, but intrigued enough to want to find out more. I wish there were more reviews, details, and pictures of the difference between the original and the new R56 version.

New turbo, ported manifold, and 3" downpipe should be shipped tomorrow. Going to order a water/meth kit soon. Leaning towards Snow performance's stage 2.

Will bolt up everything except water injection, then datalog with AP some mild driving around before playing with reflashes and the injection kit. I realize it probably won't work perfectly at first, but I have other transportation in the meantime. Mostly just want to avoid breaking my new engine / turbo, so going to take it slow and keep an eye on AFR's and IAT's.
