Intercooler air diverter preference?

I was just wondering if the group has any feedback on these, I am looking to replace my ratty, tired looking unit for either the DDM works unit or the Alta.

So who's got what and what are your thoughts?

I have the DDM, I can't really say which one is better. From what I've seen, most aftermarket ones (from well known companies) will do a better job than the oem one.

I have an Alta on mine.
Fitment once installed is perfect.
Mine was warped in the box,but once bolted down its perfect.
You remove the stock duct on the hood and this seals to the hood.
Hypothetically, it should be more efficient than the stock setup.

The build quality is good on the DDM, pretty much the same deal for the Alta.

Don't mind the missing bolt, I cross-threaded it like a moron last time I took the intercooler out:

I'm wondering if the metal diverters retain more heat then the stock plastic. Or does the increased air captured from the mail slot out weigh the retained heat?

made mine out of an air vent from lowes. cut it up some, made 2 "layers" so it really grabs the air from the top of the scoop and forces it to the back of the IC. i painted it with high temp black paint. the width is perfect, you just have to adjust the length.

the alta one i had recieved was warped.... then to make matter worse the bolt holes were misaligned and i had to drill out the back holes to make it fit, was not impressed, after it sits and fits.... works great

This weekend I modified my stock diverter with a piece of black plastic pipe from the HD, my dremel like tool and some gorilla glue....... seems to be working well. Think I'll add the front to back diverter from the right side of the scoop area like the other aftermarket diverters y'all have posted.

Wait 'til you see the air scoop I'm building at the moment....... I'm going Mad Max with that sheeee-awwwwwt!

This is a good idea. I think I may integrate some of this design into my newly revised diverter shown previously in this thread.

I don't know if this is still true of the Alta version, but mine was powder coated (non-stainless) steel, which, after a few winters in the lake-effect snow belts (where they salt the roads), it eventually had some corrosion bubbling up under the powder coating.

I've since had it re-powder coated, and don't drive it in the winters anymore, so everything is cool, but just something to consider.

Is the DDM version made of stainless steel?

If so, then knowing what I know now, I'd go with that one, just for corrosion-resistance and longevity.

As others have said, the Alta one rusted up pretty bad on my MINI too. I'm now using the DDM, stainless steel FTW! As far as function goes I'd hazard a guess they are both the same, except the Alta will rust.

I had my hood open today after a 20 minutes drive home in 80 degree weather. They do seem to hold the heat in. The car was sitting for a bout an hour and it was still hot to the touch. It may be one of those things that need to be at a high rate of speed before they start to work.

They only help when your car is moving. Once stopped our intercoolers heat soak pretty badly.

Anyone have any experience with the old alta diverter that has the water sprayer on it? Was wondering why those fell off the map.

Seemed like a good idea.

You've gotta post pics when it's all finished, and maybe post how to make it?

I think you are misusing the word ricer. A functionning intercooler diverter is far from even fitting in this category!
