When is a tuned ECU needed

Hey guys!

So far all I have is a CAI from Madness Motorworks for my engine. At what point is a tuned ECU really necessary? Would it be better to just reset the factory one or would going to a jcw or something else help me any?

If you change the injector size you have to. Or put a cam or head then you need to.

With basic bolts ons no the ecu will manage just fine but a tune will get the most power from the parts and help drivability alot. You can see my mods on my sig and I am on the stock ecu tune. I plan on getting a dyno tune though after an intercooler and jcw injectors.

A tune can be beneficial at "any" stage, even stock. You realy have to figure out how far do you want to go with your mods & how often are you willing to spend the money to change/upgrade your tune.

And yes anything more than a 380cc injector it must be done, if nothing more than to limit the fuel flow for normal conditions, as far as anything else, your ECU can adapt well enough to get you by until you can have it done, or decide you want it done.

Dont forget except for those "have to" situations like the big injectors, a tune is nothing more than an adjustment to make the parts you have work at their best.

Great response. Exactly what I was looking for in an answer—thank you!

Another thing to think about...
The closer your car is to stock, the less you need a tune
.....so the more engine mods you invest in, the more beneficial it is to tune....
