Drivetrain Cusco RS diff quesitons
Cusco RS diff quesitons
I am looking into doing a diff with my clutch replacement. I know the OS Giken is the bees knees but is out of my price range.
So i am between the quaife and the Cusco both at about the same price.
To those who have the Cusco, what fluid do you use and how often do you change it?
Does anyone know the service life of the clutch plates?
I know many places were selling the 1 and 1.5way Cusco RS.
is the 1 or 1.5way perfered?
Does everyone just run the stock initial torque and 60% lockup or is there a custom setup people are running? I assume just lower initial torque as more than 60% lockup would be rally spec stuff.
Any input would be appreciated.

What did you find the Cusco priced for?
Honestly from what i have seen its not worth it to not pay the price premium to get the Giken, it is that much better.
The 1.5 is what you would want. Keep in mind the Cusco can make some noise when cold and is subject to be picky about what fluids you use.
They recommend a fluid with a friction modifier, I forget what one it was. Its standard gear oil fair, replace every 30k for normal driving 15k for beating it up. Don't know the plate life its subject to use really. a friend has one with about 80k on it i think and hes already got some loosening of grip so to speak, it functions just not as well as it used to.

Collin, thanks for the response.
i found the Cusco RS 1.5way for $1350.
I know what the physical differences in the Cusco and OS Giken are.
What feature makes the OSgiken better, more adjustability, smoother lock up, less noise?
What % lockup are the OS gikens running anyway?
Thanks,
Jonathan

Not sure of the exact numbers of the lock up, pretty sure it will 100 percent lock up
but you did get it, it is smoother faster and very much quieter.
since they also use about double the number of plates it improves all of those functions and gives the lock up area of about double compared to others
making wear a bit less of an issue.
Plus most don't think of this when buying a part but the customer service I personally have gotten from Mark Mendoza and Bernard at OS is second to none. those guys know their products and are always willing to help.

I got information on both LSD
Both are set for 100% lock.
The Cusco has an initial torque of 4-5 kg-m and uses a set of small coil springs across the ramps for pre-load to set the initial torque.
The OS Giken has an initial torque of 10-12 kg-m (why it is quicker to lock) this uses cone spring at the ends of the diff for pre-load and initial torque and a set of coil springs across the ramps acting as negative pre-load this sets and area in the torque application were there is no locking effect making it quieter on the street and in parking lots.
At this point i may try the Cusco a WPC treatment of the plates for smoother lock up and reduced wear.
Should be under $1500 but at that price it may be easier to go for the Os Giken. Ill have to think hard about it.
