I had to look it up: I've never seen one here at Helix. The price is cheap. The only comment I have based upon the pictures is that the hangers are welded straight to the skin of the silencer cans--a mistake we made with our R50 cat back several years ago. After about a year, the loads on the sheet metal started to fatigue and crack the metal. It's much better if the hangers are welded to a seam or plate. As with many Chinese manufactured exhausts, the welds look good, the metal is highly polished, but it's probably very thin gauge material, so longevity is a question mark.

Why doesn't anyone do custom exhaust systems anymore? I had one made from 2.5"SS with a 4" Magnaflow Glasspack ahead of the cross brace and a 4" Magnaflow turbo style behind the cross brace (both in the "tunnel") then straight back to a custom tip. Butt dyno says there's a definite improvement. Nice burble n pop. $400 installed.

I think the problem people have with Custom exhausts right now is that you don't get to know what it sounds like or performs like until it's done. And if for some reason you don't like it, you're still "stuck" with it and the price tag.

Let me know how you like it, debating to either get a Borla aggressive cat-back exhaust or M2

I disagree: If the exhaust guy knows what he's doing they will usually all perform about the same. As long as they have a decent sized pipe and is mandrel bent it will flow well. If you don't like the sound you could afford a different set of mufflers and still be under the price of a a lot of aftermarket units. Why spend 800-1000 for something that you can get for 400-600 (installed). It makes no sense to me. If you keep it to one muffler you can really keep the price down.
I have custom exhaust on mine and love it. I don't think I have talked to anyone with custom exhaust who didn't like theirs. It's a piece of pipe and a muffler it's not rocket science. Would I go to a cheap CHAIN shop to get it done, probably not but most cities have a GOOD shop that performance people will use. If they know what they are doing you should be fine.

Not trying to flame or insult just saying that I disagree and why.

+1^!
I went to a local shop that was recommended by my mechanic and a few friends and co-workers who've had work done with them. I followed a Challenger into the place and a Lotus was leaving......... not like he was patching holes in their Yugo....... to each their own though. I've heard quite a few aftermarket and like them. But for $400 I couldn't go wrong. I've had people at MOTD asking if it was an Alta or an Ireland Eng. Good nuff!

1:29 is my bud Colin, and I'm at 1:40 in the MOTD sound-off vid above. Both are technically "custom" exhausts, but mine was actually a prototype G4 piece - you'll see them at MOTD this year, and I'm now running a 2.5" version (that was the 2.25").

Having literally tried a DOZEN "custom" exhausts variations on the R53, I can personally attest to the difficulty in finding a balance between HP and db!

HP is actually easy to find - run a straight pipe, and avoid the half-dozen 90 degree (or tighter) bends and internal restrictions of the stock system. You'll find 12-15+ hp in a Great Big Hurry, and go deaf just as fast, then get arrested for disturbing the peace.

Finding HP while not going DEAF is tough. VERY tough. Problem is... our little blown motors don't have a turbo back there chopping the exhaust pulses into tiny bits, and they're tuned to backfire (OK, I'll use the politically correct term "burble" - which, by the way, I really like!). Finding longevity on the R53 with a burble that destroys some glasspack-type mufflers - is even harder. I think I've got it licked, though...

I know custom exhausts are a viable choice, but the thought of having one made, and if it's too loud for example, trying different mufflers/resonators to change the tone, the can cost additional money and time if it's not something you can do yourself and have to bring it somewhere.

As for going with single resonator/muffler to save more money, they are going to be louder then some people may like. I've heard an Alta on another members Mini and I've read about IE's exhaust and it's louder then I want, both for daily driving, and for staying off the cops radar (Who are super a holes in my area with modified exhausts).

That being said, would I have a custom one made before buying a brand new exhaust for 800+? Yup sure would. But I picked up my Invidia Brand new for $580 shipped and installed it myself with basic tools in an hour. Tips on it look great, sound is PERFECT for daily driving, and fitment was perfect.

To each their own and I'm not going to hate on anyone for whatever route they take, hell convert your stocker into a one ball and swap out the stock muffler and you can probably make a great exhaust for super cheap.

Just from the people that I've personally spoken to about exhausts, they decide not to go the custom route because they don't want to take the chance of not liking it when it's done then having to give the car back and have it reworked until they find what they like. They are willing to pay the extra money after watching videos to get an exhaust that they know fits their needs.

For those with custom, you should take pics and list materials used and sound clips... that way people could know what exact parts to buy to get the same product you guys made! Like if someone used a certain pair of mufflers/resonators and certain tips, they could be bundled as a DIY exhaust package and all they would have to do is bring it to an exhaust shop and have them provide the piping and welding.

Well i like it but its not as loud as i expected but its definitely got a throatier sound so that part i like but as far as the fitment nothing quite fit right just aft of the y pipe it had to be shortened on the left side and the pipe running back that goes over the cross member had to be rebent, so the fitment could have definitely been better but other than that i do like the sound.

All of his posts are poorly worded copies of a previous post from other people. It's like the post was plugged into google translate twice.
