Screeching halt!!!! One pipe exiting the rear on the side, not dual pipes exiting the middle of the bumper? I'm not a Gen 1 guy but this doesn't sound like an "S". I could be wrong. Gen 1 guys?
One pipe at the back to the right is a Justa cooper. One pipe in the middle might be a new catback or new mufflers for an S.
Usvibud... NO chips! NEVER EVER chip! When the time comes, you will get your MINIs ECU flashed, ie: "tuned" (what Braminator said above). Way from Way Motor Works also tunes. He is in Atlanta.
Dude, before you possibly waste a ton of money, you seriously need to spend some hours studying up on supercharged engines, MINI S's, and the various parts, pieces and theories of what makes 'em go faster. You need to learn enough so you don't have to ask people general questions or what to do. You need to make a plan, study the plan, ask questions about the plan, rejigger the plan a few times and then when you are ready... begin executing. it will be far more satisfying for you in the end. Good luck.
I'm sorry, but that's just WRONG!! Whatever you decide to do, you need to get that ricer fart can taken off and put a proper exhaust back on the car!!!
Xan (I DO love the name), I must agree with Davisflyer. That kind of thing has no place on a MINI. I would suggest VIP Custom's R53 Cooper S exhaust (scroll down towards bottom). I have the R56 version and love it. Being as I am in the R56 world, someone like Davisflyer might be better for advice.
Thank you. I don't know if you can tell but the black plastic on the bumper (left side) is melted. I don't know what the hell the previous owner was trying to do. Ugh
Seriously cute MINI, but I like R52's. I can imagine that the previous owner was attempting to turn a poor MINI into a Honda-like abomination. Please for the love of all that's innocent and pure, put a proper exhaust into the little fellow/darling!

The good thing is that those black pieces are dirt cheap and easy to replace yourself.
If you don't want to spend a lot of money, just buy a used oem cat back and put it back on properly.
Well, Xan, you seem an intelligent and kind woman (to your MINI... It needs a name). I trust you to restore the poor thing (and you hearing) to properness. I will leave you in the good hands of the gen 1 MINI-ites.
Good luck and Motor On!
p.s: Feel free to send me a pic after you get your MINI fixed up!
Best bet would just be to find a stocker to stick on till you find a aftermarket one you want.
The R52 has a cabrio brace so you need to make sure whatever you do will fit with that.
