Hello All,

I have 2002 MCS with Alta 15% pulley K&N intake and Stebro exhaust. My Autometer gauge usually hits 15 psi at full throttle. Last week I did the VGS mod and now I am hitting 16 PSI.

I am not sure if I had a leak in the system or maybe the VGS is keeping the bypass valve closed better. I am going to take the bypass valve out and see if it is sitting properly.

Alec

tapping into the boost line

Found this string of posts interesting as I have been trying to add a guage myself.

Comment -

I started by purchasing the autometer lite series and have returned 2 of them. The first one - needle moved when I tightened the brass fittings and the second one was not at zero when it arrived! There have been other posts talking about buying a quality guage and based on my experience so far with autometer, I have opted for another brand for round 3.

Question - There is another post showing the boost/vaccum line which one needs to tap into which is on the left side of the intercooler below the aluminum ducting that takes air from the cooler to the supercharger. IS THERE AN ALTERNATIVE? because I can't reach it and it appears that I have to dismantle a good bit to reach it.

would appreciate any help in this matter that you can give.

u may need some good long nose pliers..but being as i did the VGS mod it was pretty easy as i made a complete new vac line from inlet-fuel valve-boost valve-boost gauge...heres a pic of the nipple with a complete new hose attatched...yours will have a thin black pipe with a grey rubber nipple attatched to the end

I previously posted results with the 15% pulley plus other mods. The 2003 MCS now has a 19% Alta pulley, 380cc JCW injectors, Pipercross Viper CAI, 66-to-62 TB, ported/polished supercharger, port-match intake manifold, ported/polished head, Schrick camshaft, GRS intercooler, MM/Comptech header and Miltek exhaust. Maximum boost at WOT in 2nd gear was 17+ % as measured by a Defi electronic boost gauge. Dyno testing will be fairly soon...

Was 18psi, now 19psi at redline. See mods below.

Got an additional 1lb after I took off the gatorback belt (the one with the crosscut grooves) and installed a new NAPA belt.

Expected a loss with the GRS IC since it has more voluem, but didn't see a gain or loss. I'm happy to see my boost up considering the header and Borla Race exhaust. I live at about 100ft above sealevel.

I think M7 sums it up

When I decided to add a boost guage, I bought one from a very popular manufacturer which many here use. I don't care to bash the manufacturer but when I connected the brass hardware the needle moved and stuck showing boost. So I sent it back to Summitracing who as a vendor is first rate and they sent me another one no questions asked. On the second guage, the needle was not in the zero "box" (zero is not a hash mark but a box - implying that zero is in this "area"). It dawned on me that if zero is a "an area" then how accurate can the boost reading actually be?

SO, I sent this one back and decided to try a different manufactuer.

While, I'm not a professional driver where my life may depend on this information - it goes to the other recent post discussing paying for things that actually work or deliver what is promised.

Hopefully this 3rd guage will be a charm.

No guage yet....

but a lot of the variations in posted numbers could be due to by-pass valves. If your car is one of the lower boost cars, check that out and post what you find.

O5, HAI, cooler plugs and MSD coil.

11psi at wot at 6000 rpm +.
16 in.Hg at idle at full temp.
I use an Autometer ultralight. I had to adjust the needle (about one lbs) at purchase.

Hey Msfitoy, if you look at the altitude chart you can easily see why Ryephile has 4 more psi. than you.

Has anyone seen the 2006 (?) gauge pods? Voltmeter, and boost. Looks really nice but the boost gauge only goes to 17lbs. The pod housing is only $40!!! and integrates very nicely into the tach
