Nice.
Thanks for posting and the picture.
Any how to?
Cost is for a complete set for four wheels?
How does the weight compare to stock?
Any option for lightweight studs? Or is that a bad idea?

I'm actually looking for "plastic" caps.... for the existing hex lugs.
I'm sure they come in either black or chrome.

Any ideas ?????

Peace,
D

I do not have an option for lightweight studs, but as you see above, the light weight lugs are available. each lug and sutd weighs just 1.7oz (that is the larger lug)

No ideas of plastic caps though... sorry...

The kit is for a whole car, that is 16 Lugs, and 16 Studs. All you need is your own lock-tite.

This is available at www.thepilo.com/cgi-bin/store.cgi?category=Exterior

I guess some people think it's easier/faster to swap tires when you can line the wheel up with outward pointing studs instead of having to try to line up holes that you can't easily see.

Good idea, but I have a twist for you:

I am using BMW's anti-theft lug bolts (2 per wheel).

I would assume that 2 or 3 studs per wheel would still accomplish the intent of easierwheel installation & still allow use of the anti-theft lugs.

Anyone see any downside to this?

I don't have my mini yet, but I used to autocross a VW GTI, and I currently autocross a Civic (and have had several other autocross Hondas in the past). I know it sounds dumb, but because of the wheel bolts, changing the wheels on the VW was such a royal PITA compared to the Civic or my past Hondas (which of course use studs). People often figure out techniques to make it more bearable to change wheels with the bolts, but the bottom line is, when you're changing 4 wheels 2 times (or more) a weekend, the studs sure make it go easier - at least in my experience.

That makes sense. Somehow, I have never had a vehicle that used studs:

'74 Saab 99 EMS
'82 Saab 900 Turbo
'81 Fiat X1/9
'88 VW Fox
'88 VW GTI 16V
'97 VW GTI 2.0
'00 VW GTI 1.8T
'03 MCS

Lug bolts on all of em!

The stud portion that sticks out is 1.25" long. The Country of MFG is the US of A  I think the part of why it is easier to change has been explained. I am doing a full tire change now for auto X with R Compund tires, so I need it to be as easy as possible.

They install using Allen Wrench, and you need to have your locktite to hold in place..

Really gr8 idea 2 produce this product, Dan!

As I do most all the work on my Mini, it'll definitely save me some time (and prolly the utterance of a few nasty words).

Altho I love my '03 MCS, their thinking on producing a car w/bolts instead of studs (and a canister oil filter instead of a spin-on filter) just totally escapes me. I suppose maybe they're doing their best 2 convince owners 2 let the dealers service the car?

I just put on my stock rims, and found out that is you want to keep the covers on them, you need to go with the short open version of the Lug Nut. That way it will still fit over the lugs.

For People that were wondering about installation, it is very easy. You don't even need to jack the car up. What you do is remove 2 bolts on a wheel, and then install the stud with lock tite, and then the nut over that. Tighten the nut down, and remove the other 2 bolts, and follow the same process. You now have converted one wheel over to stud with out touching a jack

D,

The SAAB dealer actually sells the black plastic caps for the lug bolts/nuts. The last time I was at the dealer the parts guys said he couldn't keep them in stock fast enough. You may want to check them out.
