My suggestion is not to touch them. Is there a reason that you think they need cleaning? I say only a shop with the right injector tools should be touching them.

Injectors have MICROSCOPIC holes....they are precision parts...
beyond just replacing the orings, and reinstalling, not sure what you could do without harming them.

Run some injector cleaner through?

If that doesn't help, I say leave it to the professionals.

I was thinking of soaking them to clean the nozzles. That sort of thing

yeah i would say soak them in injector cleaner if your going to. thats pretty much all the shop does. or you could just run an additive through the fuel tank. but do they really need it? iv never seen any r53 injectors that needed cleaning. its usually the r56 which have direct injection that get really dirty.

My trusted and most experienced independent MINI shop swears by BG44K for fuel system cleaning.

I've cleaned injectors in an ultrasonic cleaner with excellent results. You need some way to cycle them though. An electrical engineer I work with made me a little circuit that opened and closed them a few times a second.

You will not be able to clean the insides without special equipment. Experience says leave well enough alone other than to send some cleaner through the system regularly. I use Techron, a 20oz container, every 2500 miles.

A surgeon friend of mine told me once. "The enemy of good is better". I think this is a case where there will not be any gain, whatever you do with the injectors once you remove them. And the downside potential is great.

Not sure why no one posted this but you can send them off to be cleaned. If you can afford the down time they will be like new when you get them back.
