Are there any other mods/updates, or will the ECU and existing exhaust be compatible? Can I simply bolt these on and go? Are these the main components within the JCW system?

Thanks for your time!
Nope. JCW is the same internals. Only difference between an MCS and JCW is turbo, exhaust and tune(?) pretty much.

So, it's an upgraded turbo from the stock S? I heard the intake is upgraded as well. I guess the Q I had If I don't *re-tune* it, will the ECU throw any codes or will the hardware work OK, just maybe not to its max potential?

Thanks again!

Yes, air filter, turbo, ECU tune and a different muffler are the drivetrain differences. Then there's also the aero kit and brake kit for a full JCW conversion on the exterior.

Groovy! So no codes, no engine issues, nothing problematic and no damage, just increased performance if I swap the stock *S* intake, turbo and exhaust manifold?

I have heard that a JCW has a different/stronger block. Also, I have heard that you should replace the oil line. I'm looking at the Detroit Tuned oil line kit. Not bad for $150. Adds some longevity to your turbo.

Doing the JCW turbo upgrade to my N14 shortly myself. I've ordered the Detroit Tuned Oil Line Kit to do at the same time, and I'll wait on the inlet to do a full NM CAI. Is there anything else I should do at the same time? I've seen these 5 piece turbo hose kits but don't know if they really do anything. Alternatively theres the NM hoses, but I only get 1 or 2 at the price of the 5 piece kit, so would it be best to focus on just one particular hose and do that? Thoughts?

I'm about to do the JCW turbo swap into my '10 MCCSa due to a busted wastegate actuator. Scott at Motoring Magic said that the JCW turbo would be a direct fit and have no problems. Doing more mods down the line is definitely a possibility I'm thinking a turbo-back exhaust and tune from Jan should do the trick, as it's only my daily driver.

Now the trick is to find a NEW JCW turbo for a good price. I've seen it range from $1,100-$1,700 since I've owned my car (6 years). During a recent search, I found some on eBay for around $400!! Can anyone verify that this is the correct turbo, and from a trusted seller?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/BRAND-NEW-OEM-JOHN-COOPER-WORKS-CHALLENGE-MINI-COOPER-K03-0146-TURBOCHARGER-JCW-/111865988270?_trksid=p2141725.m3641.l6368
I looked up the part numbers and cross referenced them with a MINI OEM part list, and they seem to match up. Thoughts??
If this deal pans out I'll have enough left over to include the WMW exhaust manifold and DT oil lines, saving on labor while the front end is off already.

This one is even cheaper and appears to bring a diverter valve.

Anyone try it before?

Just a question, those with a failing or failed turbo, I'm interested to know what all ya'lls mileage is when your turbos started failing, or how many miles when you wanted to replace?? thanks!

I can verify the two links posted are not Borg Warner turbos. Both are Chinese clones. Original BW's have a blue anodized data plate. In addition the BW logo is cast into the turbine housing as well as stamped into the top of the wastegate actuator.

So I ended up getting this one http://www.ebay.com/itm/252320725689?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
I can confirm it is JCW size as it it noticeably larger and my intake inlet wouldn't fit. It said shipping from Germany so it got my hopes up. However when checking DHL it still came from China.

I'm running into issues with boost surges and lack of boost. Getting codes P2a35 and P2b5c.
1st one is Front O2 dynamics min
2nd is MAF check signal

Any idea what this could be, other than bad turbo?
I had originally forgotten to plug in the diverter valve and waste gate hose. But I did so and cleared codes. After driving these appear.

Boost is never smooth. Even on cruise control it surges a little.

I usually buy items that not require precision machining with tight tolerances from ebay, as you may encounter unexpected behavior and no support. Tubes, bars, and so on thats ok, I guess.

I think your issues are precisely related to poor fabrication and low quality materials.

Based on our previous disassembly of various aftermarket turbos the unit probably has at least two of the following three deficiencies.
1. Compressor and/or turbine wheel gap to housing exceeds tolerances.
2. Machining of wastegate valve mating surface and/or wastegate arm bearing tolerance incorrect.
3. Metered orifice in wastegate actuator incorrect size and/or diaphragm incorrect diameter.

Thanks. I was concerned about this but went ahead due to good feedback on turbos.

Also I found more reputable turbos at $600 but these were not JCW size.

I'm going to double check that everything is plugged in/no leaks just in case and will report back shortly.

Thanks guys. I also have a barely used Alta 42/56 Billet turbo that's a legit BW.

Supposedly either can be used on stock tune w/o much trouble. I really don't want to swap again. But I'm going to swap the diverter valves. The one I had on stock turbo was recently gotten so I know it works. Everything was plugged in.

I have one coming this week. The manifold is different too. Got a used one for $600 jcw turbo and manifold. I also have a rebuild kit for it and it has a updated oil bearing. Witch was $46. I rebuilt my other turbo with no problems.

I apologize and hope this doesn't sound negative but... I don't want any of our fellow Miniacs to accidentally buy a product they think is an authentic Borg Warner product either. The one in the link is also a clone I'm afraid.

Circle 1: The machining of the compressor housing does not extend into the radius of the data plate area on a BW turbo.
Circle 2: There is a fifth hole on our BW housing that is a locator hole for the jig during machining. (circle is off a tiny bit)
Elipse 1: Casting numbers are located here.
Elipse 2: There should casting numbers located here as well.

Thanks for the heads up.

So I derped hard. My K&N elbow from intake to turbo tore. It is now duct taped and I added another hose clamp. Of course K&N does not make one of those intakes for the JCW so I don't have an easy replacement.

Nothing on Amazon Prime either so I'm hoping to find a stock used JCW intake...

This is what I've found as a possible replacement but I've just messaged the seller to see what the exact measurements are.

I may have to get a regular 2" to 3" coupler just as a bandaid for now. And I'll have to figure out what to do re: intake (MAF?) sensor

Getting P2B64 code right now for Intake Manifold Leak
