DoS Intake vs. hood scoop style intake

Hi everyone,

Can someone tell me the advantage of running either the DoS style intake or an intake that draws air from the hood scoop (like the M7 or AEM models).

Personally, given that there's a heatshield over the turbo, I would think that the hood scoop style would probably be more efficient as I don't see the car drawing much air from the air curtain behind the firewall, but can someone enlighten me on it?

thanks in advance!

I think that either design works well. The AEM intake retains the stock intake tube and adds another "Ram Air" intake to make the scoop functional. They do give you a heat shield for the Turbo also. I've got that intake on my car, and I'm pleased with it. They had some initial "issues" with some of the parts, but have addressed all of them and the product that they have now is real nice.

The area that the DOS intake gets the air from is much better than an open intake that sucks hot air from the engine compartment. Years ago, General Motors used "Cowl Induction" in some of their SS models. Seems I remember reading that this was a great place to get cool air for the engine. I believe that at speed, the air is running over the hood and into this area. I'm sure others will chime in about the benefits of this system.

I knew I'd read something about the cowl area previously! Thanks Clint.
