The Akrapovic Delete-R removes the light from the dash, but does not fix the P0420 code for emissions purposes (if I understand correctly). Just a word of advice there.

Well I don't think the code will hurt anything would it? So best bet is to go with someone like RennTech or Jan to clear the DP? I'm not a genius with exhausts sorry lol. Thanks!

If you have emissions, you will fail the cat readiness test.

If you have RENN or Jan do it, it will show a NOT READY which you are allowed 2 of generally before failing the test.

But wouldn't that test only apply to those in states like California? I live in Michigan and I know for a fact that we don't have tests like that for our cars. Unless I'm not comprehending what your saying.

Alright - if you don't have emissions tests, then there's no worries whatsoever.

It's just a light on the dash at that point!

so the way i understand it, if I don't switch out the DP but do the NM tune, I shouldn't get a CEL.

That is correct -- all this CEL talk is related to changing the DP to a smaller cat or catless.

Tunes never create CELs.

I have a catless DP on my R58 S and it doesn't hurt a thing. Now since NM is based in California, I'm almost certain by law....(pretty damn strict emission rules here), they cannot tamper with any emission devices, regardless if the customer is in or outside of CA. Otherwise I'm sure they'd offer a high flow or catless DP.
Now this is just a reasonable guess, not factual.

There are tuners that are willing to remove that for you I'm sure.

Now for us N18's....I think that overpriced Akra R is really the only option to remove the P0420 code. I haven't heard of anyone having it removed through a tune, unless I missed that somewhere in this thread.

You're correct - NM can not by law change the CEL due to CA rules/regs.

The N18 CEL can be removed by every tuner except NM.

Those with the NM tune, how is the gas mileage if you drive it conservatively?

Same as it was before the tune, but I'm not very conservative in either of my MINIs. If you really try, you can make 29/30 on the highway (in my Auto All4S).

Though, I usually never see above 24 in either of mine.

I drive a lot of miles in my commute so I will have a fair assessment soon.

I track my fuel and mileage independent of the on board computer. Before the tune, my average over 11,500 miles was 35.4 mpg in my 2012 MCS manual Trans.

I've had the Renntech tune for a few months now. My r56 is a torque MONSTER. If you have any questions just ask

The tune is mostly applied to the sport mode. When it's on, the torque is crazy. It doesn't even matter what gear you're in, it pulls. With sport mode off, the torque seems less than stock but the variable valve timing seems to be adjusted at higher rpms because it feels like a little vtec action.

Gas mileage went down about 2-3 mpgs.

Has anyone have any negative affects from the tune? I am mostly interested in the NM tune, as it seems the best bang for the buck at 500.

Being the proud owner of an Akrapovic DP.... I know.

'Twas a joke.

I'm sure it revolves around spacers or the mini-cat spacer...
