LSD install

Does it really take a day and a half to install a LSD? I remember talking to a MINI tech and he said that he had done so many MINI clutches, he could get the tranny out in about 3 hrs. A couple of places I've talked to said it's about 14 hrs. (and yes I know that's book time, but really?)

A MINI tech can do it in 3hrs because he does it all the time and is trained to do it. For in experience yeah a day and a half. Also a clutch job is a 12hr job by the book. Now are you doing it yourself or a shop?

The LSD install is typically about an hour if the installer know what they doing. If they don't have clue or have a lot of trouble holding the detends in place then I could see it taking a couple hours. Anything past that they shouldn't be touching your car.So expect to see about an hour or two added to what ever the clutch install would be.

TBH I typically charge about 8 hours for the entire job. Figure that's about 3 to remove the trans, 1 for the diff and another 4 on the install. I assemble things by hand and take the torque wrench to every thing so it's on the slower side of what can be done I guess, but the the end result is better IMO.

Any case a decent shop should be able to do it about the same time, give or take an hour, with out major issue.

I'm still weighing doing it myself. I know a tech that does side work, and I've got a lift in the garage. I should probably do it myself, but then there's always the shop garentees the work aspect...

Anyway, I've got a Quaife sitting on the counter waiting for me to decide what I want to do...lol

I went with a Quaife over the OS Gilken because I just couldn't justify almost twice the cost for my street car. But it needs a LSD...
