Drivetrain RMW Tuned
RMW Tuned
I had the opportunity to have my car tuned by Jan recently, and even more so, test it out on the track. This tune was so impressive that I felt compelled to write a review about it. I own multiple cars, which include an S13 with SR20DET, a 1986 Toyota Corolla with a 20 valve swap, and an EG6 Civic with a B18C5 swap. A little bit of background for my other cars: My SR20DET swap was done and tuned by G Dimensions for my S13. I'm not sure if it's the skill of the tuner, or lack thereof, but my SR20DET has initial power lag (not related to turbo lag) before the actual car starts to get going. The best way to describe it would be a permanent 1/4 throttle from idle to about 2000 RPM, regardless of how much throttle I actually give it. My AE86 Corolla, tuned by Maverick Motorsports, ended up blowing at two different events. Finally, my EG6 was tuned by Raceline, and that motor ended up blowing at a Redline Time Attack event at Willow Springs. Needless to say, I was more than thrilled when my Mini didn't blow a motor at the track. More than that, the Mini ended up blowing away most of the competition after Jan's tune. I would be THRILLED if the rest of my cars ran the way my Mini does now.
I drove the car on Big Willow this past Saturday, which is a very high speed course, and just so happens to be the very track on which I blew the motor in the EG during the Red Line Time Attack event. Although most of the day at the track was under wet conditions, I did manage a hotlap at 1:39 when the rain decided to let up for an hour or two. Right off the bat I noticed there was minimal delay in power delivery. The most prominent areas I noticed the difference in driveability was during turns 3 and 4 and 5. Throttle modulation around these corners was prominently easier, and it really allowed me to exit those corners at my desired speed. Power delivery felt extremely smooth throughout the entire RPM range. Exiting turn 9 I was able to hit about ~119 mph before hard-braking into turn 1. Prior to the tune, the car would reach ~107 mph on the same straight. The car no longer feels as though its choking past 5500 RPM, and there is no power lag anywhere.
I am very pleased with the tune, and my car runs like a champ now! I wish Jan could tune my other cars and I look forward to enjoying further at a future Button Willow event!

As I understand it Jan is very helpful on the phone. His posts on here are sometimes cryptic so just best to call.
