OBX header + (insert cat here) for trouble free fun

So, I've searched and read about all the various cats that people have used with their headers (OBX and otherwise), what I didn't get a good consensus on is what cats people run that a) don't burn out with mods AND b) do NOT throw trouble codes.

My current setup is giving me a p2096 (madness header/metal cat) that will not go away, and I have to pass emissions by the end of January.

I'd like to keep my stock header/cat in tact, I have a feeler out for someone's stock header/cat that I might buy, but looking for a winning combination that will give me many moons of error free running (preferably with the OBX header).

So far it seems that either Dynatech or Random technologies seem to be the way to go, but I haven't seen any posts verifying if people run these without CEL/SES lights going off, or what specific models people are running.

Thanks in advance!

I think you are on the right track looking for a stock cat. By far this has been the most reliable cat and able to take the heat our little engines produce.

I have been running the OBX header with stock cat for at least 4 years but I did install a little gizmo in the O2 sensor wiring so it wouldn't show codes. It's been through emissions testing twice without issues (PDX Oregon). I actually installed the header because I melted the stock pre-cat in the stock header so I had to take it apart to fix so upgrades were in order.

Yeah, you got the o2 simulator that's no longer available it seems. Others have run the stock cat/OBX header, so I think that's the route I'm going to go.

PAImportTuner, tried that, only have room for one, and it barely fit in there. Still throws a code.

Did that on my EVO still threw codes. Not much room to do one on the MINI.

Alright, but I just told you I used one and my October 2006 model doesn't have issues on a stock tune and I'm catless.

PA, what works for one car won't always work for another. And I had the 90deg angled spacer, that didn't work either.

I've already sourced a stock header/cat to use though, so OBX here I come.

How do you like your pulley and cam combination? Did you do both at the same time?

The pulley was first, and that was an eye opener. Then came the cam later on, and wasn't as much of a "wow" factor, but really broadened the power range. Both, highly recommended.

I had to go back to the stock header for now to pass emissions, and that's another "wow", as in, it's amazing what a custom header does for our cars. The stock isn't bad per se, but it's not nearly as nice as the custom route. Can't wait for the nvidia catback!
