Drivetrain I thought Randy @ webbmotorsports was a stand up guy
>>My emails to him were ignored a few times so not sure what to think of him.
>>
Yep, that's the biggest problem right now that I'm trying to deal with - missed communication. I am working hard to get them all answered, but I actually fall farther behind each day!
The busniess has really taken off - thanks to all of you and the continued support. Know that I am doing everything I can to provide the best customer support possible. The steps are underway, and within the near future, this shouldn't be an issue any longer.
Ken - I sent you a PM, so let me know if you have any other questions.

I have dealt with Randy many times and no problem. I bought all my mods from him and no problem. I have called him for advice many times and he has responded right away or PM me back with the information needed.
I beleave that there is another side to the story and we should wait until RANDY answers back with his side of the story.
This are coments from a couple of guys compared to hundreds of people that are satisfied with his service and frienship.
KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK RANDY

>>Randy, is it possible to set up your website to process credit card orders? That will save some time and effort for your customers when placing an order.
>>
>>Thank you for all your personal phone calls and expert advices!
I just want to be sure it is done right. Mark, who does my internet stuff, is still familiarizing himself with the ins and outs. I also don;t want to see folks buying stuff they don;t need, or get the wrong product for what they are using the car for, so I still like to touch base. I think we have that facet sorted just about through both the Garage section interaction, and the ability for me to contact the customer before the order is processed if there are any questions.
Mark and I are working on that as an ongoing development. I do have the "order line" that is dedicated and can process credit cards 24/7.
Thanks!
Randy

Randy, may i make a small suggestion, even if it only a temporary fix, Try Paypal, it acts as a third party(being that you use to be in porshes, you probably familiar with that stuff, with overseasorders), They take cc and check over the net, to ease of the fincail institution part of it, as well they give you intrest on the balance in the account(if you set up the money market part) it has alot of good perks, automatic shipping labels if you are not drop shipping, etc, etc...also good if you do any ebaying. In the end i would say that direct cc sales on the website is nicer, but until that gets worked out this may be a good temp fix, as well as just another option for your customer to pay with, I have had great sucess with it....

Yo Mike,
Could you do us Mini owners a favor?
Sell your car and and go back to the VW club?
Ubercooper
PS nice job validating the story prior to posting, impressive really, slanderous actually.
Does anyone else remember when there were less than 5000 MCS's in the states? That was a great time, before the bandwagon was filled with the mentally needy.

Met randy in Vegas at the mini event a few weeks ago.He gave me all kinds of free advice and treated me like I was his best customer and I have never bought anything from him. I over heard him say one thing in particular to another person that sold me on his integrety. He would rather sell the rite thing for a 10 % profit than the wrong thing for a 30% profit. You don't hear that a lot these days if at all. Keep up the wonderfull work Randy ! Randy ( the original one I'm older )
I think dgz's comments are on track. Just looking at a few factors, if Randy has installed over 250 pulleys, that is a gross of $100k, earned over maybe 12 four-day weekends a year+. Take out expenses, put back in extra sales of chips, intakes, etc, on these jaunts and you see a very profitable venture which takes a major toll in travel time, install time and de-compression time, leaving the rest of his business to play catch-up. What he is trying to do is run several businesses as well as deal with all the start-up issues. So what do you want: a mail order/drop ship vendor authority/part recommendation center or a pulley party/elite customer service or a hands-on track and dyno evaluate any part service, or a develop new brakes, cylinder head, engine mod R&D service? It would seem somethings would have to make room for others. The immense factor of the internet blows the typical business model into hyper space.

Definitely growing pains, and I am sure Randy will sort it out. You have too, to survive. I think all the things Randy does is great. They are all needed for a comprehensive business. Unfortunately it is overwhelming for a one man shop and can sometimes cause each piece to suffer in some way. Thanks Randy for coming on to explain.
I think back to the original posting title, "is Randy a standup guy"? I think these posts and all of our experience indicate he is. A fluke incident with some miscommunication, does not tear down the entire reputation of a guy. As hard as anyone can try there will always be at least one unsatisfied customer. I am sure Randy will resolve it. Randy thanks for all your hardwork to the Mini community.

Mike, after spending the last 36 years of my life helping people resolve interpersonal problems, I have become convinced that nothing in life is simple or "speaks for itself." There are ALWAYS at least two sides to every story, the first reports of anything are usually distorted, and nothing is ever helped by passing judgment or passing on "what you've heard." 98% of our problems are the result of simple misunderstandings complicated by some inappropriate emotional response.
Let's give Randy (and everyone else) the benefit of the doubt and the courtesy of not passing on unsubstantiated charges.

Randy,
Ditto dgszweda1's comment .
Thanks for all of your help and advice. We all know how difficult it is for a new start up business in todays environment of customer expectations and instant gratification. As I stated previously I felt bad going to your competetors but please understand, not hearing back from you was very frustrating. In hindsight I now have a much better understanding of just how busy you have been and the problems you have encountered.
Your initial philosophy toward customer service is excellent, you need to be careful not to spread yourself to thin. I am positive once you get aditional help and with the support of your friends and customers here on NAM you will be extremely successful.
Thank you
Dave

Randy sold me a supercharger pulley that was made out of sugar! When i went to heat it up it turned into creme brulee and then caught on fire! What the heck happened, Randy!? When i poured some water on it, it dissolved in a puddle of sugarwater! Now what am I supposed to do, Randy? Now my dog is licking my "supercharger water." I hope he runs around the yard 15% faster. Gee Randy, I thought you were a standup guy!

This is a disclaimer. The above was meant as a joke and is purely ficticious. None of Randy's parts are made out of sugar or any other confection including (but limited to): chocolate, milk chocolate, skittles, Big League Chew, gum drops, Mike & Ikes, cotton candy, and Nerds.

I am developing a new intercooler that is made from ultra efficient Nerds. We found the most efficient material, to our surprise was not unobtainium, but rather the magical sugar found in Nerds.
I will refund your money straight away, cheese!

I just caught up with this thread and read through the crucifying that Randy got over on that other car's board. Unbelievable! I bought quite a few of my mods form Randy and everything was handled impeccably. The only person that got screwed around in the dealings between the two of us was Randy, when I cancelled out on him at the last minute when he was going to do some installs and had scheduled some track time for us. To this day I feel bad about that.
I hope the complaining guy gets a malfunctioning ejector seat installed .

Randy is an *** and I wouldn't buy anything from that guy....
Just kidding....
No matter how nice a guy you are you're going to eventually rub someone the wrong way. It's a fact of life, some personalities just don't mix. Keep up the good work Randy. This is the first complaint I've heard about Randy other than being a little hard to get ahold of. Even if half this is true it's still better than I've seen from most other vendors.

I spent two solid days bugging the **** out of Randy at the FL pulley party in Nov. I found Randy to be an VERY knowledgeable, honest, and respectable person. He bent over backwards to help me get my mods and the work done to my car was impecable. Randy busts his *** for his customers, Randy busts his *** for this community and I think that this sort of forum trolling flame bait of a thread is pittiful... Randy Webb will continue to get my business in the future and I hold him in very high regard as a person and as a MINI expert. Hell, he even GAVE me parts at the pulley party to replace some damaged equipment I had, instead of selling me something he had brought. That is a sure sign of his greed and shady business practices...
Sadly due to some very serious problems in my life I have failed to make good on an agreement that Randy and I have... Even in the face of that situation, he has been nothing but helpful and supportive. I think that speaks volumes of him as a person, and that will always put Webbmotorsports at the top of my list.

Well, there certainly is nothing like stirring the pot about someone to bring people together, no matter what side of the fence they stand on.
This is one story out of how many internet transactions/sales? This wasn't even done through Webbmotorsports, but as a private sale!
Isn't it amazing that this tiny dispute erupted into 4 pages of internet chatter in such a short time? I pity the individual that would allow something like this to keep them from proceeding with business in the future with Randy. I'd liken it to only purchasing off of Ebay from people that have NEVER had a negative feedback.
Sigh... On to my weekend.
