Why wouldn't this work?

So I ran across this panel foam air filter:

and I'm thinking that if I did the stock air box modification that Octane Guy describes, it should provide the increased air flow that I'd get if I spent $200-250. What do you think?

It would work totally fine, get it, do the airbox mod and couple it with this.

Alta intake inlet hose or similar.
