I currently have a BMP/Promini intake on my '02 MC that I just put on and I am contemplating selling it and doing one of the following:

1. reinstalling stock airbox and dropping in the hiflow K&N filter

or

2. reinstalling stock airbox and putting in the Mini Mania intake tube, replacement lid and drop in filter.

I have not seen anything posted regarding Mini Mania's system or much on the drop-in K&N filter. I recently added a RSpeed exhaust which I am very pleased with, and then added BMP/Promini intake. Car sounds great, seems improved (seat of the pants feel  ) - but I am not excited about pulling the intake completely out to clean/reoil it in the future and it does touch (barely) the hood insulation and I can't seem to get the assembly any lower..

Any comments from someone using the K&N or the Mini Mania? I do not believe that I am giving anything up from a performance standpoint on changing the intake - however I will admit the car feels more fun to drive now and the gas mileage improved since I installed the intake!

Thanks for any help!

Based on my experience with other cars, (not my MINI), and various test I have read, I'd say the K&N drop in filter will result in absolutely no performance improvement.

The K&N is an oiled gauze filter & the Mini-Mania set-up uses an Oiled foam filter. Eventually they would also need to be removed, large bug parts/debris removed, cleaned & re-oiled just like your existing BMP . Why not stick with what you've got? It takes all of 30 minutes (working slowly) to remove, clean & replace the BMP setup. if you are looking for more power, the Mini-Mania might be an option at more $$. The K&N would probably be a step backward compared to the BMP- just a guess.

Webb Motorsports (NAM sponsor) has both the Mini Mania and Pipercross Viper CAIs and says they're good for 5 HP. The Mini Mania is $100 cheaper.

There's a long thread here at NAM on removing the resonator box (it's a b!+&#) to fit the Mini Mania CAI if you do a search.

I'm really cheap and bought the Uni (foam) Filter for $25, which is good for maybe 2HP! And I don't plan to clean it. I figure at that price, when it's dirty I'll just get a new one.
