Would you use a belt from 2007?

I have a Napa 535 hanging on the wall in my garage from about 2007. Sold my 06 MCS before I got to use it.

Now I am planning a pulley for our 05 MCSa and thinking about using the belt. It has been in a dry garage attached to the house that does not get below freezing. Nothing silly has happened to it, it is just hanging there.

What do you think?

Thanks!

I think I read in Bentley that MINI recommends changing the belt every five years. If that's true, it's food for thought. I personally might, because I'm adventurous (cheap). I'd make sure you have a limiter on the tensioner in any case.

No reason it would be bad. Its going to see far worse conditions on your engine. I have always ran a 535 belt with the 15% as well.

The belt will be fine. they only get worn from use not from being stored. I'd say just check it for any signs of dry rot cracking.

Chances are there are a lot of belts running around that have sat on warehouse shelves for as long, or longer than 4 years. I wouldn't worry about it.

It is heat cycling that breaks them down the most.
