I broke the 5000 mile mark on Fri.

And the Sprintex Kit got CARB approval yesterday. Thanks to Randy @ M7 for all his hard work.

Just had a couple of days of work on the car at 1320.

Fitted a new tensioner - the previous one cracked! Thats why it was loosing power as the belt was slipping, and it ate 2 belts in a week..

After changing it, putting a fresh belt on, installing a CatCam and having a new tune installed the car made 248 whp and 201 lb ft wtq! Max IAT was 41 degrees..

Great news for the sprintex-crowd!

Great to hear the good news Dave.

I'm a little concerned with the tensioner though, you make the fourth one I've heard of failing. Might need to look into a stronger hydraulic tensioner assembly.

You can see the crack in the metal at at the idler pulley, next to the thread.
Tensioner was pushed inwards, thats why it ate 2 belts in 5 days time

Ok that's the first time I have seen that! It's a whole lot worse than the problems the others and me have had. Might have just been a stress crack in a weak casting, and failed with the normal stress of opperation.

I hope that Sprintex is taking care of the issue, thats not an easy part to get.

I can't take credit for this as several people really put in the time, most off all Peter and the Mynes guys . It will be a real benefit to those of us that live in CA and other smog sensitive states. Unfortunately many more states will begin to follow this trend so the more we can do now to comply the happier our modding days will be in the future.

The guys at 1320 provided me a new one, and they will contact Sprintex about the failure and will send it back. At least that way I could get back on the road again with the new-found power
There still is more in the can though - Next time when I'm over there will be some mods that should create around 310/315 bhp and 325 nm of torque.. Also, a standalone ECU will get in there

First roadtrip with the Sprintex (I would say "New Sprintex but I went past the 10,000 mark this w/e, so I guess it's not really new anymore), 1200 miles this past w/e, and the best and only thing I can say is "NO-thing", NO problems, No issues, NO hint of anything different than any other previous trips anywhere. IAT's ran between 12 & 18 degrees above ambient, and even idleing at 1500 rpm for 15 min. or so to jump my gf's battery didn't get over 150.

And I know this isn't directly related to the S/C but even with all my mods & hp, if I stay at or under 70mph, I still avg.'d 30.9 mpg, above 70 drops to 29.2.

Next trip MOTD, anyone who wants, just ask for a look or a ride. (when I'm not cooking of course)

Getting back into the tuning this w/e, it's been a long enough break.

The tuning is pretty much done, jusr some minor tweeks left, I did a video the other night "at a track of course"........, to give you a sort of "real world" idea of what it's like now, instead of just quoting #'s & graphs. (still 70mm pulley)

Start is approx 20mph
Top of my gears are as such:
1st=45mph
2nd=65mph
3rd=95mph
4th=115mph
5th=120mph (in the video-7000rpm)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HQSXprlGDXY

I just need to work on getting a better way to record the sound, my phone doesn't do the S/C justice.

There's a good chance I have the most miles on a Sprintex kit so far, to date I have a total of 21,500 miles on mine, 15,000 w/ the 70/69mm pulley, 6500 w/ the 64mm pulley and the 60mm goes on this w/e, still no issues at all, everything just works.
I saw 15.7 to 16 psi of boost w/ the 69mm pulley, 16.9 to 17.5 psi w/ the 64mm and hope to see 18.5 or so with the 60mm.
With the amount of miles I drive, should be ready for my first S/C oil change by the end of Sept.
(just a drain & a fill bolt, and nothing to take apart what so ever, unlike the M45)
I'll still NEVER go back to an M45, no matter what I do for future build mods.

I do believe you are in the mileage lead. Good to hear that you are still running strong, and trying all the options.

Added this to my thread on m/u the other day, and as I said there, while I've lost a little power overall simply from age & wear, the motor is still really sound and I'm still making changes and improvements to make more power,the age of stuff isn't stopping me, these motors are really very sound, throughout their lives.
Plus, everything I'm doing now acts as testing and will translate when I eventually do my rebuild.

I did an Adjusted Cam Gear yesterday, my milage isn't stopping me....hell it's not even slowing me down....
So here it is, these are my results, the only change is the ACG, all the conditions were as close as I could get them, this is with a STOCK cam.
OEM Gear
ACG
(bottom graph is boost only, wanted to show, that's not where the power came from)

The most fun of this is the torque, I went from being able to hear & feel the tire spin at the top of my first gear, to actually being able to smell it...
I'm plenty happy, 60mm pulley goes on today if I get off work early enough.

counting the minutes

Hi, Thanks for sharing your sprintex experience. I am counting the minutes until I have the extra funds put away to buy a sprintex for my 50K 05 MCS. It has all the mods available without cracking the engine. I has great performance now , I can't wait to feel the improvement the sprintex will give. Thanks again for all the info.

Between the extra low end of the Sprintex and now the added torque of the ACG the car is a completely different animal.

I can't say enough about the ACG, esp. for me, I just got lucky and got "one of those" ECU's that doesn't like cams, so I had no choice but to stick with the OEM, but now it's the same or better than either of the cam's I tried, simply because the power comes on sooner, as the graph above tells you I got a peak difference of 7 ft/lb's, but if you look at it closely you'll see that early on it was more like a 9 to 10 ft/lb gain, and neither of my cams turned on near that early.
As the guy who designed it say's "It Just Rocks!", not to mention it's a pretty simple mod.

I wish I could use the ACG with a good Cam, the extra high end power of the cam & the addtnl. low end of the ACG would be a great combo.

Your experience has convinced me that I need it on my 05 JCW. What's the difference between the stock Pulley and 60mm? Guess the warranty goes away with the 60mm.

Yes, warranty goes away with anything other than the supplied 69mm pulley, pearsonally I wasn't worried about it simply because I knew I would only make it 6 months anyway because of the amount I drive. I may be wrong, but to my knowledge, there hasn't been any issues, with any of the units, regardless of pulley. (69, 64, or 60mm)
I still haven't been able to do the 60mm yet, just not enough time during the week for me, that'll come this w/e for sure. Can't wait to see what another bump in boost is going to be like. (see #114 about boost levels)

In order to run the Sprintex at all if you are a performance orented driver, you will need a good custom tune regardless of what the brochure says. Its not the best idea in the world to jump straight into the 60mm, its best if you atleast start with the 70.

This is true, start with the 69/70, get everything broke in and working well as far as knowing everything is right from the install, and yes I would have it tuned, if nothing more than to get the full potential out of that pulley, while the boost levels are similar to an M45 with about a 16% pulley, where and how this S/C makes it's power is different and a new tune will allow you to take full advantage of those differences. Then once your comfortable with it, and if you still decide you want more, then consider the pulley swap, it's so simple as far as actually doing it, only takes an hour or so.
IMO though, if you're gonna do the swap, just go straight to the 60mm, both the 64 & 60mm will require a tune and in the real world you're only talking about 1 more lb of boost between the two, not to mention saving $100.00 + retuning again, the only reason I say this is, if you're the type of person who wants more, once you get a taste of the 64mm pulley, you'll just want more again.
And I would suggest a better than stock I/C with the smaller pulleys, while I ran the 64mn pulley with my stock I/C with no issues, the GPIC, just makes things better.

Honestly, while "I" think it's worth it, even if you stay with the 69mm pulley, to me, the greatest advantage to the Sprintex is having the ability to get more than what an M45 can offer, without taking that huge leap, to turbo only.

And as I had said in an earlier post, I know my overall power is down, simply because of age & wear, it still feels like more than it's ever had before, and I constantly get, thumbs up or stares of disbelief, in those "situations" we dare not speak of..... (I still find it hard to not "open it up" going under a long overpass, or in a confined space, just to hear it, whistle & whine. Personally I think I've finally passed "Over Grown Kid" and gone straight into "Crazy Old Man".

LOL....well I AM an old man so gotta get the fun while I can. I have a Water/Air IC on now. I'm almost the same mods/car as yours on my 05 except for Sprintex. I am fortunate to have Hank from Advanced Auto Fab in my town to do the tune & install so I'd start w/stock and go to 60mm.
I'd like to Turbo my 02 since it has the TPR 2 from Old Man Thumper but it looks like I will not make it through the emission test in my state. Either another Sprintex or something else so they can chase each other whp wise.
Who will win??

I got curious and went back and looked at some of my old logs, and found something that I thought was interesting.

While only running a JCW pulley on my M45 and getting 14.5lbs of boost, running the 69mm pulley on the Sprintex was giving me 15.5lbs of boost but my IAT's were actually cooler by about 7*, and with the 64mm pulley and getting 17.7lbs of boost they are only 6* warmer than the M45.

+6* with an extra 3lbs of boost, not bad.
