I'm in the middle of Paul Frere's "Sports Car and Competition Driving" (great book from a guy who not only was an excellent racer, but a great engineer as well). I finished up Smokey Yunick's "Power Secrets". Man, what a great read! He exemplified the sort of logical tuning process that is all too absent today. Carroll Smith's "Tune to Win" was very good as well. It just so happened that the local bookstore had only one of his books, but I'd like to read the others now.

here is a light read "Theory of Ground Vehicles" 3rd ed. J.Y. Wong.

Has a great section on Shear Stress-Shear for Tracked vehicles...uh, as in tanks..

Also considerable detail on cornering forces in tires, even aerodynamic forces re. frontal areas.

you might want to brush up on transcendental functions and integrating them

I don't think this was available when I started the thread, but now it should be a no-brainer for everyone on this board to own!

"How To Make Your Car Handle" by Fred Puhn. Though the driver needs more work than the suspension.

Anyone have any info on when a revised Bentley manual covering 2005 models (especially convertibles) might be available?

The price drop on the '04 version seems to indicate a new one might be imminent...

Have they doen this in the past?

Advanced Race Car Suspension by Caroll Smith...along with Punn's book. Punn's, in my opinion, leaves some very important things/relationships out. Still a must read - bought mine in 1981

Believe it or not, you can also find some incredible suspension info on the web from within the RC community. RC= Radio Controlled

Has anyone found

a real good book or technical manual on our ECU? I've read basicallay everything in my Ford EEC-IV, (and there are tools available to program it!), but I haven't seen anything good on our computer. I even tried to get a programmers manual, but you have to be a customer or something! Damn!!!!!

Tekkie Details about the MCS Engine

Thanks for the list Andy. Let me add a freebie.

Back in 2002, the German engineers who developed the Supercharged MCS engine published a detailed technical paper on the developments. Of course, the basic MCS is unchanged for the intervening 3 years, so the info is still perfectly valid. If you haven't seen it, a copy (in German, with all the figures) is available here

If you would like to see the text in English (but without the figures) go here.
For the English speakers, I strongly suggest you fetch both so that you have both text and illustrations .

Another good one that deals with the holistic approach to modding rather than specifics:

My humble endorsement

Andy,

Great choice in getting Scientific Design of Exhaust and Intake Systems , it has been around for a long time now but is still relevant and very educational. I have to say though, that I found the other book by Phillip H. Smith, The Design and Tuning of Competition Engines, to be an even more enjoyable read. Two thumbs way up! I have had both my copies for about 24yrs now.
