Also looking for exhaust options...

[edit: I've scrapped this post since new information has come to light]

I've got an '02 mini cooper S, with a "sport package"- or so it would seem. I can't find any place that even acknowledges the existence of the sport series exhaust, let alone sells a direct fit replacement.
Advance auto has an exhaust (as does rock auto) that's a single muffler that supposedly will fit the car.
I'm wondering if any of you have tried it- and if its much louder than the dual muffler one that the car has shipped with. I'm especially interested to know if it actually fits.
the current/stock/sport exhaust is split open and needs to be replaced. While it could possibly be welded back together, it's rusting through in several other locations.

A local exhaust guy I met today who has drank away his license and chance to own his own garage is willing to fabricate me up something, but we havn't worked up a cost yet. Any suggestions down that road?

I hate to bump my own post, but I completely rewrote it and I'm out of ideas... is there anything wrong with a custom exhaust from some random shop?

There are lots of cheap aftermarkets out for an '02 such as Megan or OBX. Both seem to be very god for the money.....and it keeps the dual center exit

Yes there are plenty of complete exhaust kits avail that should be cheaper cost/time wise to just get one already to install
