I don't have one yet, but it should definitely be mounted as close to the cylinder head as possible, conventional wisdom says in the hottest cylinder. I read about a guy temporarily hose-clamping the sensor on the outside of each exhaust runner during similar sprints, and comparing the results. Then, the hottest cylinder won the distinction of having its runner drilled and tapped for the sensor.

Just curious, but what are you going to do with the pyro readings? Do you have someway of modifying the maps in the ECU or tweaking the AFR? I think I read somewhere that too advanced ignition can give premature high EGTs.

What are the advantages over a traditional EGT gauge... or say a nice wideband A/F gauge?

I only use my pyrometer on my rotors

a pyrometer is a EGT. I don't have access to all the codes for the ecu so i won't be able to mod the program, but when i do get a chip i'd like to know that it changed something, otherwise i'm going to post on here that i saw no change at all from the chip. When i'm done i will have a A/F, pryometer, boost, oil presure, intake temp, and oil temp gauges. It should be fun, and i will record all the chenges i see from one mod to another. I hope to see the a/f ration lean out more as i mod the engine, and from what i've seen, mods only make it dump more fuel in the car for some reason.

So basicly, i want to make sure i'm not getting riped when i buy i part that changes the performance of the car

Instead of going to all of the trouble of doing an ECT (which BTW you can monitor through the ECU if you get ODB software) why don't you just get a wideband 02 box? They are getting very cheap and can do a lot more than they used to.

If you must, here is a pic of the ultimate poor man's Wideband O2 setup:

Good luck!!
