new valves and springs

i just blew my head gasket and i figured i would finally install my shrick cam and open up the head while its off of the block. the car is mildly modded except for the head, and i want to upgrade the valves and springs when i port. suggestions for a budget build?

There is no such thing as a "budget" head if it is done correctly.
First off I would look at a better cam than the Schrick.
The NitroStick-2 is a great cam for the MCS.
Get the head ported to a Stage 2 spec.
+1mm on the valves
NS Valve Springs
Should run around $1,600 - 2,500 depending on the shop.
Cubic money = more speed!

Just ground out for the valves.
Plenty of space on the seats.

These are the best springs and retainers on the market These are beehive springs and custom Ti retainers. They are sold buy FES auto, a vendor right here on NAM.

NitroStick Series Valve Springs are revolutionizing MINIs performance with street/strip applications. The NitroStick Series Valve Spring and Retainer kit is the first and only valve spring kit designed specifically for the Tritec Mini Cooper engine. Titanium retainers reduce inertial load, allowing optimal performance for high RPM and high lift camshaft applications. The NitroStick Spring and Retainer kit is for street and track applications and is the best choice possible for your MINI. The unique Beehive design allows the valve train to handle higher engine rpm and more aggressive cam profiles with even a full race MINI engine but still retain reliability for street driving.
