R56 Straight Pipe Anyone?

I have no problem being obnoxious and a loud stereo can drown out drone . Does anyone have a clip of one? I'm sure the popping of the 2011 would be awesome without the silly muffler

I am running a 2.5" pipe from my stock down pipe back to a Magnaflow muffler. I eliminated my second cat and resonator. It is loud. My stereo (stock HiFi) will not drown out my drone on the highway above 3K rpms. I would imagine a straight pipe with no muffler would be even louder! But if loud is your thing it will definitely sound aggressive !

I'm thinking keep the resonator and Cat, but ditch the muffler.

That will be tolerable in my opinion....

I've run my exhaust without the rear muffler section, so it was just the downpipe and straight through resonator....wasn't that loud at all

Loud enough to coast by a police car, but not loud enough to cause permanent hearing damage

I have a Riss Racing dp, and the Invidia q300 exhaust so just a resonator and muffler and its pretty loud, borderline too loud. I set of the warning on a car alarm yesterday in a parking lot lol. The drone is kind of loud but if you blast the stereo it’s not bad i defiantly turn a lot of heads. Iv had a few people say it sounds like a v8 i like it and everyone wants to race on the highway

How did it sound? I'm thinking of just putting and electric cutout just before the rear muffler.

Didn't sound bad...

It was the stock dp, with the Invidia resonator.....didn't sound all that much different then how it sounded with the Invidia muffler attached...just a little less refined and slightly louder

A girlfriend of mine didn't even notice the difference....lol

Found a seller on Ebay that has a proper mandrel bent pipe all the way from the Cat. May be worth it to not hack up the stock exhaust, hrm...

Ebay Link

And a video, not sure if I'm digging the tone, but it's hard to say with Youtube.

I saw an add on here of someone selling a straight pipe kit for the R56. It was from the DP back. I was think about taking out the muffler section, too. I already deleted the resonator and have not had any real drone issues. Yet. Haha.

See, that one sounds much better than the first. I'm tempted... $200 isn't bad considering I can keep the stock exhaust unhacked incase it's not so great.

I'm thinking of doing the same. I took off the resonator already, but I'm thinking of taking the exhaust off and just do straight pipe. But I will leave the cat. Does have any affect in performance or on the engine?

I had a straight pipe catback and the drone at 70 on the highway going up hills is horrible. Seriously, you will damage your hearing with this setup. You will have headaches. I threw the stock muffler back on but kept the res/second cat delete and it's a great compromise.

Seriously the drone is painful with a complete straight pipe setup.

Trevre, I'm looking at the same set up. Can you post a video? Which cutout did you go with? I'm looking at the qtec25cp but I'm nost sure if it'll be worth it or how it will affect my tune(s).

A few months ago the exhaust on my '10 broke just before the resonator (or where the resonator would have been had I had one), so it was essentially a short straight-pipe behind the stock DP. FWIW, it was unbearably loud by my standards - and I'm a young guy with motorcycles in my garage.

The bigger issue is that the interior of these cars seems to resonate at about the same frequency that the exhaust puts out at a 75-80mph cruise, so a sort-of loud exhaust becomes REALLY loud on the highway. I had to add a resonator back into my GP's exhaust to tone it down on the highway (Akrapovic DP, factory exhaust from the DP back minus the 2nd cat and stock res).
