Drivetrain $50 - $60 per horsepower
$50 - $60 per horsepower
I've got a RMW tune on the horizon and wanted to make sure that I've done everything "reasonably" possible to maximize the effect of the tune. After looking at cost vs. benefit on each of these, (providing my hp numbers are accurate) I thought it was interesting that they were roughly $50 to $60 per hp.
DDM CAI 5-6hp $210 new
Samco intake hose 1-2hp $80 new
Invidia exhaust 7-9hp $600 new
RMW cam 8-10hp? $575 new (including $150 install cost)
380 injectors ? $180 used (not sure of the benefit other than they're necesary to make it all work)
RMW tune 10hp min (I hope) $450 (with dyno)
I didn't include a pulley on the list (my first mod) but I'm sure it's way less than $50-$60/hp. Any disagreements with my figures? Anything I'm missing for this price range?

Jan (RMW) got me WELL over 10hp from a tune, but what's better than that is the useable power, the mid range torque I gained was amazing.
confirmed, 26hp and 18lb/ft torque from my first tune.

useable power.
FYI, subsequently got 450cc injectors, much wider torque band, couple more ponies.

Jan's tune this month found me 13 hp and 14 ft.lb. So, for the tune and dyno, cost per hp. @ around $38 its a bargain! I do agree that its the torque that's one feels in the pants.
I worked out my costs to date and am way closer to $100 per hp. gain based on stock MCS 03 ( in reality) making 144 whp and 130 torque. Now at 190hp@6700rpm and 178ft.lb.@4400rpm.
I did fork out for the Milltek system over 2K but don't regret it and also no used parts.
My racing stripes and BRG eyes give the biggest bang for the buck and cost the least!!
Also to note that there are Dyno numbers and then dyno numbers......can and do vary 15 - 20 hp. Jan agreed that the dyno used in Rochester reads lower then his.

also, you have to remember power to weight, a couple hp means a lot in these cars. i couldnt believe how much faster my car was with the pulley and cold air, then how much faster it was with the header/exhaust, then cam, then head, injectors, pistons, etc lol. im still waiting for my tune for ANOTHER bump in power.
I cant wait to install my 15% sc pulley & +2 lighten crank pulley. it will go good with my intake and exhaust.
Than i am hoping to get it tuned by Jan. Its a long drive to So Cal. (well not as far as some of you) but i think it would be worth the road trip.
