Ok, so after much pondering and not liking the way the Alta sprayer uses the rear washer, I came up with an idea. I will be having this done to my S as soon as it gets in, but I thought I'd share as some of you all may like and perhapse improve this design.

1: Remove all the wires and lines for the xenon washers as all they do is get water spots on my black car.

2: Use that pump to hook up to the sprayer on the Alta air diverter.

3: Use the "dead button" on the multi function wheel to activate the system, and have a LED places somewhere in view so that you can tell if the system is active.

4: Put a 10 second relay in the system so if one of the actual triggers to spray go off, the sprayer will run for 10 seconds after the trigger is released and constant while one of the triggers or switches are pressed.

5: I will have aa button on the pedal such that when the accelerator hits the floor it will trigger the system to spray (if the system is active see #3)

6: optional LED to show when the system is actually spraying

7: optional second switch to activate the system when you cannot floor it.

Well if anyone has any ideas about if this sounds like a good or bad ideas, as well as any possible improvements you can think of lemme know, thanks.

Idea # 3 is the best. The system could be easily activated. However, if the ALTA system uses the rear washer, then you obviously could not use any type of window cleaner except water. Perhaps running another line with a seperate pump & bottle would be a good idea. However, where to mount the system, and how do we tap into an electricl switch?

I'd think that #5 would be all that you'd need- when else do you want the extra cooling/power? I can imagine having the switch on the MFSW would be problematic if that were the only way it gets activated (power out of turns?). FWIW, the LED seems redundant and fussy.

As for using the Xenon washers, I think that'd be better than the rear window washer. I recall reading somewhere that these washers were a "Federal" requirement for some reason; I doubt you'd get pulled over or cirted for having non-op headlamp washers, tho

You don't actually want the spray while you are running flat out as airflow is cooling pretty well at speed.

The intercooler acts as a heat sink and what you want to do is cool it down again as soon you can after a high speed run. I suggest you spray it when you don't have WOT but just after.

I have the Alta diverter as well, and have hooked up a separate Windshield Washer pump ($20.00 at local hardware store) drawing from - you guessed it - the headlight washing system. I will only be using it in the summer, so no need for antifreeze in that bottle during that time.

I REALLY don't like the idea of killing off the rear washer - the rear window gets completely dirty in 3 Km of Southern Ontario driving this time of year.

I actuate from a hand made switch - an ABS plumbing TEE with a home doorbell switch mounted just under the gearshift **** - falls right into your hand. (Just like the old drag racers 'line lock' switch.) No light or automated actuation, just press the switch when you want cooling.

I recommend using it on hot days when you are in traffic to help solve the dreaded 'lawnmower getway' when the car feels like it has 3ft/lbs of torque at low revs. Obviously, if a Civic pulls up at that very moment & requests an appointment, well, then use your best judgement....

That's my 'low tech' solutioin.. (This is a work in progress, BTW - don't know how it will actually work..)

Cheers,

David

Yes, the LED's are just candy to the eyes. Something that allows me to know the system is on amd when it is actually running are not totally NEEDED, but then again, all this performance is not NEEDED, but that won't stop us huh?

LOL

Unfortunately my S is still listed as on order, so I have like 2 months to wait to get a chance to try this out unless I get some of you fine people to give it a go.

Just installed it (w/rear window washer so far...)

I'm confused...I thought the time when you would activate the sprayer is when say you're sitting at a light and want to take off quickly, and its hot, so you spray to improve your (?boost ?torque? really don't know what I'm talking about but I mean to go faster more quickly!) by having cooler therefore denser air enter the supercharger...

at WOT, would the water still provide additional cooling, given that the rush of incoming air would still sweep it through the intercooler? (Hot air coming in fast is still hot, so would the water still provide cooling effect? but maybe not enought to see an acutal increase in speed at WOT...

the larger air diverter just made sense to me, hooked up the sprayer "cuz it was there" without OBVIOUSLY even knowing how to use it

I installed it too, as you say coz it seemed to make sense coz it was bigger. But...I didn't hook up the water part of it as I didn't want water sprayed all over my engine. So maybe I'm not gaining anything over the stock part. Who knows. But while I'm here, if you hook up the line to the rear window washer do you have to hit the control on the column to get the water to spray? Assuming you do, what's so hard about that to cool the supercharger down? Just a little pull (or twist) on the ****.

Ken

That twisting the ****, as well as the cooler being covered with a blue film, as well as the back washer messing up my clean MINI is what caused me to think of using the xenon washer pump, not to mention that i HATE that washer thing, all it does is mess up my bonet. When installed, the system I propose will be a hands off system requiring nothing more that turning it on in the morning of a race day, or when a Honda pulls up next to you with an attitude. You get a amall HP increase with the faster cooling intercooler and though it is not BIG, when you add it to an intake, pulley, programming. exhaust, wires, and plugs, without needing to do anything other than put your foot on the floor, it just seems like a simple way to get just a tad more HP.

When running a race I find that I can barely have time to shift and get my hand back on the wheel to make steering corrections, the **** wwould be the last of my worries. When I have my system installed I will not have to put any effort into getting the sprayer to run at all.

For those not wanting water on their intercoolers I hope you never drive in the rain. The object is to cool the system so that when the fuel/gas mixture hits the engine it is cooler, thus it has a larger compression when it gets sparked and combusts. The intercooler air diverter allows more air to flow over the system cooling it better, and the sprayer allows you to drop that temperature even more by more rapidly dropping the temperature of the intercooler. To me it only makes sense to work on having the system sutomated in some fassion but with a switch to disable it.
