Drivetrain what would happen if.....
what would happen if.....
i would delete the hose that goes from the supercharger bypass valve to the intake manifold and seal off the manifold. so im guessing the bypass valve would vent to atmosphere causing sound?
im asking bechause the hose is getting kind of crusty i dont know why so im probaly going to delete it but i thought i should ask 1st

I wouldnt. Atmosphere bypass or BOV's are used for turbocharged cars to not allow air back into the system and allow a loud WOOSH sound. Has no performance gains. On my 2001 audi s4 which is twin turbo it has bypass valves. The purpose of the bypass valves is to (1) take the strain off of the high pressure intake line (after turbo) to the intake manifold. (2) the bypass valve then diverts the air from the exhaust side of the turbine to the intake side of the turbine allowing it to have a high pressure on the intake side of the turbo allow it to spin quicker. Now bringing this to a supercharged car, it is not necessary to have a atmosphere bypass valve or BOV due to the same reasons. Think of it as a air splitter in front of the car, it does about the same purpose, creating a pressure difference. Now will you notice a difference between a atmoshpere valve and a bypass valve on a supercharged car... doubtfull... On my s4 i had a bypass valve go bad so it became a atmosphere bov and the rpms it took to start boost took longer.
Hope this helps. I dont know about throwing a code, and i dont see any damage by donig it, just make sure you dont let anything get inside the bypass valve or the opening into the intake. Dont need a peble getting sucked into your supercharger.....

im asking bechause the hose is getting kind of crusty i dont know why so im probaly going to delete it but i thought i should ask 1stThat said, people have tried zip tying or 'deleting' the BPV, at a cost of MPG. But if you really want your MINI for life, I'd just get a new hose.
Uh, some clarification needs to be made. You said the hose is going from the BPV to the intake manifold. This leads me to believe you have the VGS mod installed. From the factory, the BPV has a small hose that leads right to a vent port on the module itself. When the VGS mod is installed, it converts the BPV from vacuum-operated to boost-operated. If that's the case, you leave the small vacuum line on the vent port and just cap it off by putting a screw into the end of the hose. In both cases, no ports or lines should be open or venting to the atmosphere. That would cause boost/vacuum leaks, but I am not sure if that will necessarily cause any ECU codes to be thrown.
