HPA Motorsports is a company that tunes VWs. They have some pretty sweet AWD Twin Turbo cars that produce around 500hp, and can beat the pants off of most Porsche 911s. The way they lower the engine comrpession so that the engine can handle the boost is they use a plate that fits between the head and the block. They also modify ther parts of the engine. You can see at their webpage http://www.hpamotorsports.com some things that they do.

My question is this. How come tuners don't modify the MINI like this?

The Cooper S is already built for boost. The CR has been lowered from the factory. Those wheels are Volk Racing F-Zero Challenges.... but i didnt know they came in 4x100! Sweet wheels.

HPA isn't building an AWD drivetrain for VW's. They are taking VW's own 4-Motion system available in Europe on the Jetta/Golf and importing it. Then they are making modifications to the North American spec cars to fit the system (the 2wd and AWD mk4 cars are pretty different as I understand it in terms of the gas tank layout (split into two tanks on the awd) and also they need to run the 4-Motion system back to the rear through an area that on the N.A. spec cars is only really sized for the exhaust).

There bi-turbo engines on the other hand feature a lot of their own development. They were actually the first aftermarket tuner to import the 24 valve VR6 engine and the first to import 4-Motion for the Golf/Jetta (a totally different system than the 4-motion available on the Passat).

That doesn't explain why people aren't doing this for the MINI, but that is a little background on HPA.

Correction,
I called HPA, and they told me that they were FLIK BULLET, and they are not going to come out with a turbo for MINI, all there focus is on the VR6, and R32 VW Turbo Package.

Whatever those wheels are, they are a knockoff of the Volk Challenge, that car looks good though

Question is - is it a Cooper with an MCS hood? Or an MCS with Cooper fittings? Anyone?

Hello,
Thanks for your interest in HPA. We unfortunately have no current plans to
develop a Mini supercharger or turbo kit. We are concentrating on our
complete line of VR6 turbo kits and upcoming VW 1.8T upgrade kits for now.
The Mini that we built was for a client that wanted a little track car. It
had a stripped interior, full roll cage, and race KW coilovers with external
reservoirs, NA 1.6L engine running stand alone management and ITB's. It is a
very , very fun car to drive. The wheels it has are Flik's that can be
purchased from Edge Racing. I will definitely check out the website.
