Drivetrain Differentials
Differentials
I know most people who put in after-market diffs go with quaife, cusco, or OS geiken, but what about torsen? @ $700 its not cheap, but not as expensive, seeing as the quaife is the next cheapest at $1100.
There aren't any details on the torsen site about it, as to if its a 1.5way or what, but I know torsen is at least well thought of in some circles.
Thoughts?

i checked into the torsen and if you search some SVT focus forums (focal jet i think) it appears that the function of the quafe and the torsen are nearly identical.
The torsen doesn't have a lifetime warranty and they use a different set of gears that work on the same principal.
For the cost i think it is hard to beat. Defiantly more reputable than the OBX but less a hit on the pocket book than the Quaife. That is just my $0.02, but i still haven bit the bulled and bought one either.

FWIW, torsen = std Audi Quattro for last 15 years or so
For the primary front to back differential on longitudinal motor Audi's (A4, A6, A8, etc.; side to side uses the brakes since they came out w/ AT based quattro in the 90's). Torsen not used tt or A3 with the transverse motors on the Golf floorpan.
Thus, if you search on Audi and torsen you may find more info. Always a well regarded system since it is always at the ready instead of the usual part time/reactive brake stuff and/or silicone clutches most companies slide by with.

Gear driven clutches are all 1-way LSD's. They behave more civil and when you aren't driving hard they feel almost no different than an open diff. The Quaife and Torsen T-2 like said above are based on the same principle. I have had friends in the SVT Focus forums use both with success. I don't see a benefit to justify the cost of the quiafe vs torsen.
The cusco and OS Giken are clutch driven and considerably more aggressive in their lock-up. They also will create 'lock' (not quite 50%) when on zero traction surfaces such as when a wheel leaves the ground. The car will be able to get more traction but at an increased cost. I don't know about the noise level in the Mini but I have ridden in S2000's, 350z's with clutch lsd's and they made a little noise going around corners etc.
