Drivetrain R56 JCW Front Calipers
R56 JCW Front Calipers
Well I cannot really figure out where this thread goes.
I am thinking about installing the front R56 JCW calipers, and am wondering if I should get the stock rotors and pads? Some BMWs have awesome rotors and pads.
It also seems like I will need new front brake lines, should I just get a pair of stainless steel lines for the R56? Recommended Brand?
I’m thinking about leaving the stock R53 rear brakes because it seems that they have more rotor to pad surface area. Should I leave the stock rotors and pads on those as well?
Thanks Again for all of your help.

If you like right-now return from the brakes with very little modulation, then get the JCW. I will tell you in city traffic they are a bit touchy. BUt they sure do work quickly when you have to haul down form highway speeds - or above.
Try this site for your brake lines. He makes it as easy as he can to get you the right lines. Just to make sure, I ended up shooting a picture of my old lines, texting it to him, and he told me exactly what to buy.

So are you putting the R56 JCW kit on? or the stock R56 brakes (which ARE the R53 JCW brakes). I just did the latter and left the rear brakes the same even though I had the R56 rear brakes in the box.
Good improvement, though I was disapointed that I still have a lot more pedal travel than others with my same make/model.

So you recommend getting the stock JCW, cross drilled rotors and sticking with the stock pads, or would you recommend going for a different set of pads.
If this helps, this is my weekend fun car. She's been in storage for about a year and it's time she comes out to play so I’m trying to get some things done. IE brake fluid change... Figure this is the time to do any brake upgrades she needs =)

As for rotors, you do not really need cross drilled for the street unless you like them for the looks. They do have a tendency to be a little more harsh on the brake pads and eat them up more quickly.
