r53 air intake question

has there ever been a sticky for air intakes for our cars, similar to the awesome one somebody put together for exhaust options? I want to buy an intake for my car and am having a really hard time finding factual performance gains. sorry if this has been posted before buy I did search around for a while and couldn't turn up anything too helpful. I like the idea of the m7 intake, as well as the looks but am confused as to why they (m7 and other intake manufacturers) never post actual (dynoed) gains in power! any help would be much appreciated. thanks!

Well most people don't advertise numbers because then when someone dynos their car and for some reason they don't get the same results they get pissed off. Or when some manufactures advertise numbers they are totally unrealistic or too high just trying to sell you their product.

We've used, installed and tested pretty much every intake for the R53 and I can tell you based on fitment, quality, sound, and hp gain we found the DDMworks intake to be the best. The M7 intake your looking at is very similar because M7 use to sell the DDM intake, then decided to make their own. The main difference in the two is the M7 has a different filter, isn't stainless, and has less screws holding the lid on. The real average gain for an intake on an R53 is 5-7hp, some make less, but are also cheaper.

Hope that helps. If you have more questions call us.

wow, that was an incredibly quick and helpful response. I really appreciate the input, and it sounds like DDM is the way to go!

Way, what do you have to say about Voltage intakes?

Do you have any experience?

While I am not Way, and haven't seen a voltage IRL, but that looks like its just a painted OEM intake with a UNI filter in it and the back wall cut out. The thing that catches my eye, they are using a property of fluid dynamics to advertise their product, and they didn't even spell it correctly. That should give some measure of how much smoke they are blowing.

I've seen some people with some poor-*** grammar weld up some pretty amazing things.

I'm curious about performance.

Also, a Venturi will cause a higher flow rate through said Venturi. Unfortunately, this decreases the pressure of the air flowing through the Venturi by a proportional amount. Thus you will most likely not get any more power than any other intake from what it seems like to me.

Hello all,
I'm a first time MINI owner and a future lifelong enthusiast in all things MINI.
I bought an '06 R53 MCS w/16400mi on the clock when I took it off the lot, now as we all know a stock MINI is not a HAPPY MINI. I bought the K&N TYPHOON CAI or short RAM(whathaveyou), just installed it not 2hrs. ago... Bought it mainly for the sound, but the finish of it is truly a sight to behold...now to my noob question, is the Service Engine Soon light supposed to come on, mine did, don't know why. Trying to figure it out as I DO NOT want to take it to the MINI dealer conveniently located over three hours from where I live. All help truly appreciated,
Thank you in advance,
-K

Wooohooo

My second post from the desert area.

On the topic of air intakes. I have a combination of everyone out there. I have a custom bellmouth made by Dr. Patrick O'Leary (owner of velocity-of-sound), which I had him make one a "velocity stack" sorta thing that connected the ALTA "pipe" to a big 5" opening K+N filter inside of a M-7 air box/air top. His piece is pretty cool. I didn't really like exactly what everyone had, so I pieced everyone's together to make what I think is the best part of everyone's.

Some day I'm keep telling myself that I'm going to post pictures, but I never get around to it.
