Drivetrain valve cover swap
valve cover swap
after cracking my valve cover and finding a new one, i have run into a problem. the bolts holding mine on are completely rotted out and cant be removed. what do i do? the car is not driveable so i need to deal with this in house asap. thanks
I had the same thing when I did my cam. First I ordered the set from mini since there are studs and such. Not very cheap, but not that bad especially since next time in was a breeze.
Of course you soak the heck out of it with penetrating oil.
To remove them you have to get a little smaller socket (IIRC use a 7mm instead of the 8mm) and hammer it on. You don't have to hit too hard, just tap it on, then back it out. Usually after it is removed, you have to whack the socket with a hammer to get the bolt out of the socket.
This worked for my and wasn't that bad once you get the technique down.
Good luck, but it shouldn't be too bad.

Due to the 2 different metals, alum head, steel bolt, being used there is a electrolis action. Add in the heat cycles and you get even more issues. Try putting a little antisieze on bolts before installing them. You can still get the torque value and sealing. Removing bolts will be easier next year.
