RMW Cam, Larger Injectors=Low Boost?

Hi everyone:

I just got my scangauge yesterday and was able to set it up to read boost. I have a -7 boost at idle that looks pretty normal from what I have read. When I turn off the engine it reads 0.0. It looks like it is calibrated correctly. The problem is that I was only able to generate 11.5 boost WOT in third gear.

I did additional research and members stated that boost goes down with other engine mods. Just last week I put in an RMW Cam,450 injectors and got a remote tune from Jan. My list of other MODS are CAI, 15% pulley and Invidia exhaust. The car puts down right around 220 HP.

Are these scangauge boost readings about right for the mods that I have on my car? Do i need to recalibrate the gauge? I am located near Washington DC and when I set the MTH screen I inputted 00910064FF70 that brought me to the 0.0 reading when I have the car shut down.

Your help is greatly appreciated.

I'm getting around 10-11(ish) max boost. Like you, I have a 15% reduced pulley. Also, I don't normally hit max boost on my normal driving. I think when driving spirited, I might normally be around +9 .

Yep, you should be getting more boost. Either you have a leak or your BPV is toast.

Sounds like the cam could be causing the low boost reading. If you're cranking out 220 hp, that's pretty potent. I push 17 psi at WOT with a 2% oversized crank pulley and 15% reduction s/c pulley. I dont have any head work done on mine. But anytime you cause the car to breath better, ie big valve head, cam, etc., your boost won't be as high, but that doesn't mean you're not putting out good hp numbers.

Thanks for your replies.

I am thinking the biggest difference was the cam and larger injectors. Don't get me wrong, Helix and RMW did a great job on my car. My car makes great power. I am surprised at the low boost though. If anyone with similar mods can chime in on their boost readings I would appreciate it. I have just updated my signature and retitled the thread to make the question more specific.

I am just hoping that I do not have a problem with my SC.

Thank you!

Are you sure that you have the boost setup right on the Scanguage? That could cause a bad reading as well.

Also remember the SGII does not do instant readings.
There are two settings for how frequent the SGII reads and shows different readings. If I remember correctly the normal setting only displays changes every two seconds. That could mean you are not seeing your actual peak boost.
You can change the option to read more often. I think it reads and displays every second in the fast mode.

I take this back. This morning, I found a straight uphill road on my way to work and floored it. I saw my BST read 14.5 briefly (it was still going up) before I ran out of road and into some traffic. I guess I just don't drive my car that hard.

Thanks again for your replies guys. I had to play around with the codes again on my scangauge. It finally reads 0.0 when I turn off the engine. The weather is getting colder here in the DC area and that lead to the adjustments. For a time it was reading .02 boost and sometimes 0.0 when i turned the engine off. I think that everything is OK with the SC. I was able to pull 13.5 psi and I was not flooring it.

i don't have one yet but ive been researching them and read this up on another site on how to make the refresh rate faster, so give it a shot and report back.

From main screen -> MORE -> MORE -> RATE -> FAST

Consider where the the car measures boost pressure, the intake manifold. Where does boost pressure actually matter? In the combustion chamber. By installing that cam yes your manifold pressure is lower, but that is because you basically have less restrictions (in a nutshell) as the air enters the combustion chamber. So the pressure in the manifold dropped, but the pressure in the chamber went up.
