having a pulley installed and needing a crank pulley?

I am having my 17% pulley system(belt, sparkplugs, tension stopper from way motor works) installed and the mechanic is telling me that i am going to need a lighter crank pulley. He said I'm not gonna need it now but soon there will be problems. He does have a mini of his own so he does know wat he's talking. So do I need a new crank pulley and wats the best size to get?

Lightened Crank pulleys do not have a dampener, Without one you can end up having problems with bearings and such. But with all these things, there are people who have gone 100k without problems, and there are people who say you can't go 2 feet without your engine blowing up from it(OK, that may be a bit exaggerated).

But, if your stock dampener is degraded and you do not replace it, it can explode and cause as much or more damage than a lightened pulley.

I think if you want more boost and hp the easy way without stressing out belts a 2% crank pulley is great. I have one and I dont care if it blows up my engine. I dont race it. my 2 cents...

call way, if you have an 04 -06, or very rarely (as was the case with me) and 03, the rubber in the crank pulley is known to wear and eventually break, causing you a tow, possible damage (if you dont have the tensioner stop) and will require you to get a tow. I think im the only critical crank pulley failure Way has ever seen on an 02-03 MCS, as my car was making sounds, which they said could be a crank pulley, but it shouldnt be cause mine was an 03. Well 3000 miles later, it fell off one day.
Long story short, you probably will need to have it replaced one day, but you don't need a lightened or smaller one to have it work, you just need a new one. Way sells ATI crank pulleys which have a superb record from the drag world, and unlike other after-market crank pulleys still dampen. They are a bit pricey, but IMO are worth it for engine longevity.
