a Clutch replacement question...

does anyone know how many hours of labor is needed to replace a clutch?

i spent all of today at the dealership to have my car looked at. thankfully there's no slipping, but my car has lost A LOT of power & get-go. it seems like i lost at least 5mph per gear. and sport mode feels like non-sport mode. anyways... they won't replace it under drivetrain warranty, only maintenance.

after lots of reading, it seems like i won't get anywhere with the dealership. so i've been looking at replacing it with a OS Giken clutch (in hopes that the reliability is much much better than stock). FYI...i'm at 43k miles currently.

now i just need to know from you guys (that have brought in an aftermarket clutch to your mini mechanic) is how many hours of labor am i looking at. i need to see how much money i need to budget.

thanks.

It's about an 11 hour job.

As the poster above said it's roughly 11 hours. Someone who has replaced a lot of them may be able to do it in 8-9. Someone who has never done one may take 20.

However, it does not sound like you have a clutch problem. The clutch supplys neither power nor get up and go nor top end speed. If it's not slipping when it shouldn't be slipping, it's doing everything it is supposed to do.

You've got some other problem going on.

Your car should be under warranty for other problems. What does the dealership say? Surely they aren't blaming the clutch.

aw man... looks like i should get a second opinion from someone other than the dealer.

EDIT: let me explain in detail whats up:
the clutch pedal goes down to the floor with very little resistance. it changes gears fine, it doesn't slip, and there's no odd sounds. though there still is a clutch smell coming from the 1st gear. i notice that it take longer to get to the top speeds per gear that i'm used to. it takes more effort/pedal to get to 80 on 6th. i think the MPH drop faster than normal when i let go of the accelerator completely.

or go to a different dealer. you've still got a drive train warranty for everything but the clutch.

That changes the story dramatically. If you get a clutch smell I would say it is slipping.

There still sounds like there is something else going on also.

Are you sure you don't have a brake caliper or something stuck? All those symptoms don't add up.
