03 R53 - How do I remove the hood scoop?

Hey Everyone,

I was just wondering how I go about removing the hood scoop on my 03 R53?

I thought I could just remove the 4 nuts that I can see, but they seem to be "welded" on and don't want to budge.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

No they come off. Sometimes the nuts are hard to get a socket on and they just spin inside the socket. Are you going to replace the scoop with something different? If not be careful as the threads will break off.

We didn't plan on replacing it with anything. We are going to PlastiDip it to see how it looks and see if we like it.

They are super tight. If they spin, how do we get them off and back on? Is there a way to fix them?

Thanks for the reply!

The heads of these bolts are wide and flat and if they spin, could ruin the plastic seats in which they are in. Could try some penetrating oil on them for a day or so to get them loosened up from the rust and corrosion. If they dont come fee and the plastic seats are ruined you can always get some new bolts from MINI parts Dept then get some Loc-Tite brand epoxy from your hardware store and glue the new ones onto the scoop.

And you can always just tape the bonnet off really good and PD the scoop while on. Any over spray comes right off, so no worries.

I just PD'd my scoop few weeks back and removed it. Some peeled off the rest came off with some mineral spirits on a paper towel, and it came off really easy w/o damaging the paint.

Thanks -=gRay rAvEn=-.

The help is appreciated. Of course, if I could find similar bolts at the hardware store, they would probably work and be cheaper.

I may just tape it off tonight though. That doesn't take much time and is a lot easier.

Thanks for the ideas!

So you know, you won't find the bolts you need at the hardware store - they are pretty application specific.

I just taped around it and PlastiDipped it tonight. All is good to go and once we get done and get the mesh grilles put in, we'll see if it is going to stay.

Thanks again for all the help!
