Drivetrain Just picked up a used Dinan Pulley
Just picked up a used Dinan Pulley
Well I'm going to be installing a second-hand Dinan 15% that I picked up on ebay the other day. I just wanted to see if anyone else has thrown one of these on. Looks like they were only distributed with the complete Dinan performance package.
Anything I should be looking for with a used pulley? Does anybody have any negative reports on these particular pulleys? Because it's a 15%, will I still need the shortened Napa belt?
Thanks guys,

Yes you will still need a belt. We have a pulley maint package that would be everything you need.

Also FYI the Dinan pulley isn't 15%, it's more like a 13-14%. It's a little bigger than the standard 15%.

Thanks for the info WayMotor!
I didn't realize that the Dinan pulley was bigger than a 15%. So I guess the only real problem is that it would not be putting down as much hp a standard 15% pulley. Do you think the differences are negligible?
Reason I ask is because I kept debating between a 15 and 17 but settled on a 15 because my Cooper just turned 100k miles. I figured that the 15 would be a little "lighter" and more "stock-like" than the 17. I currently have a CAI and after the pulley do not see any future engine mods in the picture. Should I get rid of this one and purchase a new 15% or should I just stick with this one because a 13-14% would be safer on my motor and the hp increases are not really noticeable?
What do y'all think?

Where did you get your information about the Dinan Pulley being bigger than a standard 15%? I have an Alta v2.0 in front of me now and the circumference measurements are identical. Additionally, the Dinan pulley feels a touch lighter than the Alta (I'll need to throw them on a scale to test this claim).
The only things noticeably different are:
-Alta pulley has a larger lip-wall on either side
-Alta pulley has notches in the grooves
-Alta pulley has an extra tightening bolt on the back
-Alta pulley has a plastic cover on the front.
I'll investigate this a little further if anyone cares to know. I just don't want misinformation being thrown around if it is unfounded.
Thanks,
A differance of 1% is barely noticable.....
Heck, a few of us have seen M7 pullies that are the same size as 15's, and other ones the same as a 17' ( they are sold as 16's)!!!
Depending on the company making them, the sizes will varry....better places get CNC machines to make them!! One thing to point out...Dinin is no longer making r53 parts....they are no longer devolping for the Mini....
Many dealers that installed their kits with the promise of Dinian keeping the warrenty, later found that they were holding the bag...Dinian wold not honor it...so most Mini dealers dropped Dinian....
Pullies are pretty similar...different profiles result in different amounts of belt wear...
Way, IMO, has nothing to gain by giving you false info...
One tip...if you buy a new pulley, you can get the use of the required puller for free...just pay shipping....buy one used, and you need to buy one....so new can be cheaper!! You get free tech support on the new part too!!
