Was searching for info on an aftermarket coil for my MCS and came across this- It appears to be similiar to the one thepilo is offering but at a more competitive price:

http://www.howellautomotive.com/Howe...roducts_id=671

They also offer wires, spark plugs, tach adapters and many other items for the MINI Cooper.

These coils are similar but need to be modified to fit the Mini. They are not the proper fit for the mini.

The Kit I sell is a totally Mini Specific Kit, and Need no Modifications.

Thanks

Sure looks the same to me plus the wording in the ad is almost word for word with the ad in Pilo's site. Dan, what modifications are needed to make it specific for the Mini?

Geez $10 less and it's not even made specifically for the MINI? And you'd really rather have that one? From someone you don't know (forgive me if you do know the seller)? I can vouche for Dan @ MINIPilo. His customer service ALONE is worth well more than $10. If I ordered my UUC exhaust from someone else, I might have waited months for it (like some others did). With Dan's help and constant phone calls, I got it in a week and a half.

Dan also answers emails very quickly. Could also be very helpful if you have a problem. Just something to consider about buying aftermarket auto parts. Customer service and support should be an important factor. For me, it's even more important than price.

The Holes for there System are not the correct size, as well as lined with a metal Cylinder that is used for mounting in Neon's The system that we sell does not have these cyliders, and have the proper sized holes for mounting directly on your Car.

Thanks

After looking at the picture I see that in the locations of the four holes to bolt on the coil to the MINI there are metal sleeves at each corner-these need to be drilled out and enlarged to take the stock MINI bolts. This appears to be the only real difference. Consider shipping costs as well before you buy. Dan stands behind his products.

The info on the product should be the similar because the manufactorer is the same and function is the same.

I ordered the full Pilo ignition upgrade and paid via Paypal.com and it was very clean and simple. the product arrived safely and was packaged well. The product had good instructions that were clear and easy to follow. And I like having Pilo Racing products so I'd support Dan before I'd go with an outfit that has lots and lots of fineprint about 10% restocking fee/no returns after 30 days and other stuff that protects them as sellers. I checked all through that site and found quite a bit of generic stuff that was put on the MINI parts section-not sure how well any of those really fit not how they would work.

Minihune,
Did you install this on your JCW MCS?? Any thing to consider when upgrading ignition like stereo interfence? or not?
As to question of product superiority...I have learn in my life, that somethings are worth paying more for and great customer service and product reliablity are those such things.
Atleast for me peace of mind and reduced stress is worth hecka more than 10.00

I think a more important question than "where do I buy ignition upgrades?" is "do they do anything at all, other than lightening the wallet?"

Mine did. The acceleration is a little quicker and I noticed quicker throttle response. Oh, I have the Pilo Coil. Yes the Pilo is a Davis Ignition Screamin Demon, but the fit on the Pilo purchased unit was perfect. Thanks Dan for a good product.

If your performance actually improved when you replaced ignition components, you should get your car checked out by a MINI dealer. Ignition systems are way more binary than the aftermarket community would lead you to believe.

Scoutd,

I don't own a JCW kit for my MCS. I do have other upgrades but no pulley or ECU upgrade.
For JCW kit owners any or all of the Pilo kit can be used since they are sold individually. The JCW kit comes with replacement plugs. So wires and coil are stock.

There was no stereo interference before or after the ignition system upgrade. My MCS runs very smoothly before and after the change. I have the colder plugs as well.

Hey Guy's

Hear is a responce that I have recieved from one of my customers... Name has been with held as I want to contact him first befor I post that, but here is what he had to state...

"Hi Dan! I installed the ignition system this morning with no difficulty. I can't believe the difference it has made in MINI. My car runs sooooooooooo smooooooooth and I have lost the stumbling when in second gear. This is no doubt the BEST mod you can make for the $$$$$. I am extremely happy with the product and am so glad that I decided to go with it. Thanks for all your help and gapping the plugs......"

I have many more to the same effect, and can provide them to any one that wishes to see them.

If you have any questions, please let me know.

Thanks,
Dan

This sounds like a great upgrade to consider after I get my MCS in January. Dan, is there any difference between the colder plugs included in the package vs. Denso IK22?

Does anyone know whether there could be any negative warranty issues if the complete Pilo Ignition System package in installed in a new MCS with the JCW kit?

The Denso Plugs have Irridium, and these are a U Groove Style, Both have there perks. Some people swear by the Denso's though.

Regarding warrenty. If you feel that you dealer will give you issues, you can remove them in 15 minutes before you go to the dealer and they will be none the wiser.. I go to my dealer often, and have not heard a thing from them about it. It is very close looking to the stock one, so unless you are really looking for it, you would not notice it.

Thanks
Dan
