gear-head, 67-69 Firebird? Had a 69Z with a cowl induction hood.

The Mini has some issues with the wipers in that area. Even without the wipers on the car, under the "D" side vent, the wiper controls, master cylinder... & more - prevent any type of sealed air box for forced induction. Dr Phil has the only solution I've seen to date.

Nope, '73, fiberglass hood, Edelbrock manifold, twin Holley carbs ... those were the days. My wife says the only time she could spend with me while dating was to help me work on the car! (Still married to her 23 years later so I must have done something right.)

gear-head, what year Mini do you have? The later model cowl vents take some advantage of the air - much better than my 03.

I'd love to talk "wife & cars" BUT this thread would get jacked BIG TIME.... 39 years & counting

I have an '02. The cowl vents were replaced early on after the foam disintegrated. They were replaced with the all plastic ones (which I still have), and as noted, they angle slightly towards the windshield.

Those are KEEPERS. I believe there is some benifit from them, not much but some.
I have the old style with the foam removed & replaced with nylon window screen - hoping for less under hood temp, dono yet, hasen't been hot enough here...... yet

I suppose I could put a remote temp sensor somewhere under the hood, and test both scoops...

You could. The biggest problem is to get an accurate repeater.....

I have a pair of broken late vents that I'm fooling with - scoope above the vent... with an IRT I check the break res temp... they seem better, but I don't have any good science behind these findings - How about that for some Re -Ra...

Took those stupid w/wipers off mine and have noticed a drop in Scangauge readings on 85 degree days, driving same route same speed.
Has anyone fixed temp gauge in engine comp with any success to remotely read temps?
