BSH Lower Motor Mount

Hey guys,

I installed the BSH lower motor mount (street bushing) on my MCCS and I'm finding that my MINI now behaves like a giant vibrator! It is not pleasant at all. Has anyone else installed one of these? If so, are you experiencing the same thing (vibrations increasing with RPM)?

I realize that the purpose of the motor mount upgrade is to reduce engine shifting/moving during acceleration and hard cornering, but it is just not a pleasant ride any more. If this is how it's supposed to be I'm taking it off.

what bushing did you get? Race or Street... if Race then... well hahaha it's made to give you the best connection between engine and you... street bushing would give a little more play tho.

I ordered street - I have no idea whether they sent me what I ordered or sent race instead...

i'm sure they would be abl to double check... mistakes happen and the "extreme vibration" sounds like a race bushing... unless it's not coming from your engine mount...

i have the same bushing, and from 2500 - 2800 the car does vibrate. It is kind of annoying, but the feel you get from the unit is incredible. The swap between your stock isn't to tough, so you should be able switch it back. But I would check with BSH to make sure you didnt get the race ver.

Well, I swapped out the BSH mount on Sunday and replaced with my OEM mount. Much better. I can't quite tell whether the BSH is race or street - the concentric rings on the bushing look pretty tight, suggesting race. Regardless, the swap is simple so I'll just keep the OEM one on and swap in the BSH when I want to autox or track.

A friend of mine installed the BSH and ended up removing it due to extreme vibration. Apparently, the BSH is a waste of money and they're not as good as the NM poly inserts. Why pay extra $ for something that performs the same?
Just get the NM poly inserts. They're direct bot on to the OEM and thus provides more cushion to absorb the vibration & noise. I guarantee you will notice a huge different.

I installed mine last night. Giant vibrator! This will come off. Some thing half way between stock and the BSH would be about right IMO.

No I didn't know that. Can you give a reference on that info?

It doesn't even want to idle now.

I drove it much farther than 500 miles and the vibrations still sucked.

Did it get better at all? Did you go back to stock?

I took my wife shopping yesterday and she was getting nauseous with all the vibration. I think my car hit the brown note. Well close to it anyway.

I returned it to stock and sold the mount. Some day I might get the NM Engineering torque arm insert (I've heard good things about it), but it's not a priority.

Bear in mind that the BSH mount is probably the cat's meow when it comes to racing/autoX applications, but IMHO it's a bit overengineered for daily driving.

Regards to the MSC lower motor mount upgrade

Hi Mellanor I installed the NM Engine Torque Arm Insert in the lower motor mount and it works just fine. Does not seem to make any more vibration than with the stock mount.
Very happy that I installed the insert. jdsMin
Installed 8/28/2010

Hey jdsMin,

with the Torque Arm Insert it would just reduce the vibration of the cabin or the engine? Sorry I am fairly new at this modding thing. Also, how many would I need for my car?

Kids, please don't put race parts on a street car. You will not like the results. Race cars are no fun to drive. They are harsh, loud, failure prone, unsafe, and if driven correctly, terrifying. Racing is fun. Driving a race car on the street is not.

The following is what the Torque Arm Insert is used for:

Tired of engine rock causing your Mini to be unstable, torque steer and miss shifts. Get that motion under control! The R55 R56 R57 MINI Cooper and MINI Cooper S has a very soft lower motor mount. As a compromise between performance and Comfort, the OEM torque arm mount is set in rubber to reduce vibration and harmonics, however it is too pliable and sloppy for the performance minded motoring. NM Engine Torque Arm Mount Insert is made of polyurethane and reduces engine movement allowing for quicker and more direct transfer of power from the engine to the wheels.

I am very satisfied with mine (NM MINI Cooper Tuning Products)..... JD

To: Emvin15 Regards Motor Mount

Hi I purchased my MN Motor Mount Insert at WMW (Way Motor Works)

You only need one (There are two pieces that fit into the original motor mount)

Look on WMW WEBSite. Hope that will help you.
Catch you later............... JD

I ordered the BSH Mini Cooper Lower Motor Mount. Get this ,its kind of funny, my car was raising up and moving around like a old Buick under acceleration so I bought a NM insert to install. Crawled under the car last week to stuff in it. Had one already! So ,long story ,I ordered a BSH Mount ,we'll see how that works.Hope it won't be an annoying vibrator
