Oil Catch Can - Worth it?

Howdy Folks
So, while checking out some aftermarket mods I've been seeing these Oil Catch Cans around. I know what their sales pitch says, but can anyone tell me if they are actually worth it? What kind of impact do they have for performance / longevity?

I've got an R53 with 97K miles on it, so I'm interested in either of those two things, I'd just like to know some more about it.

Also, how often do you end up having to drain this can? Is it something I would be checking when I stop for gas? And do you throw the oil caught here away, or pour it back into the engine?

Thanks

I think the general concenous is they don't do much on a r53.....they catch mostly water vapor....and just require emptying so you don't blow a motor...and the hoses can leak....there are def better places to spend a few bucks.....if you catch oil....consider it "spent" it has been cooked, vaporized, and re-condensed.....it is not fit for re-use.
Now if you said r56.......that is likely going to be a different story since they have huge intake/carbon issues due to being directly injected....

So is it worthless for the R53 then? I drive over 180 miles to/from work everyday and thought it might be worthwhile....not anymore...still confused on this.

What would be a better investment for an R53 that goes this distance everyday?

The idea of a catch can is it keeps oil from condensing in thr intercooler...Dr O, I think in tests showed the differance was neglible...1%...within the margin of error in the tests they did..he has published quite a bit...his site fesauto I think, under free stuff is where he archives much of it...very good reading, on many things. If you chat with a good mini performance guy, the catch can is considered underhood bling.
What to get depends on your goal...
If you want better mpg...an intake+ catback is good...becareful...some make a lot of noise.
Power...get a pulley.... Then an intake, and catback....
Want to make your carvmore relilable, do more frequent oil changes...7500 is a commn #.
If you want underhood bling....many things are functinal...if roads are bumpy, or you have 17 or 18' tires, get STD's to prevent strut tower mushrooming....
Comes down your goals!!
