Twin Turbo MINI

I have heard for the second time, talk of a factory twin turbo MINI with a 5.5L engine. The first guy who told me I thought didnt know what he was talking about. But today a buddy of mine who is a BMW fanatic, told me the same thing. I have searched high and low on this forum and online and have not seen this car. If anyone has more info, please chime in.

Stranger things have happened, but, I am skeptical.

I think driving that would be like shooting a .50 cal Derringer.

5.5L assuming v8 maybe its that swapped Hemi MINI? I have know idea where you would put a motor that big in this car unless it was in the back seats. Hmmm it would roast the tires, rims, hubs, and cv axles right off the car.

Ive heard my SAs talk about how the Prince can handle a twin-turbo setup, and that it might get done, but nothing on a 5.5L. Sounds like a torque freak's bong dream.

FWIW it looks like the 2012 3rd gen S's are going to a BMW-made 1.4 litre 3-banger that'll put out close to 200 hp stock. Whether they TT that remains to be seen.

Supposedly its a 5.5L Twin Turbo RWD. I was skeptical too. But Two people have told me already so I know its out there. They only have it in Europe though. Not available in USA.

No dis to you personally, but on the surface it appears those people are yanking your timing chain. I have never heard of this, and until I see pics and a story that goes with it, it's sounds like another MINI urban myth.

I know awhile back a racing team in Europe I think dropped a twin turbo 300 hp BMW IL6 w/rwd in a 1G MCS, but that mill and RWD D/T took up so much space the car had to be literally rebuilt from the ground up.

Sounds like it would be a pretty awesome, if oversize version of a Shogun, R5 Turbo, ect. Actually, VW had that W12 GTI concept, so I guess it's not too outlandish.

I think the 1.4 that was doing testing at the ring may have been for the upcoming front wheel drive bmw 1 .

Well there's stuff all over Motoringfile about BMW planning to DROP a cylinder and run a 3 banger 1.4L turbo engine for the MINI in the 3rd Gen,

however i HAVE heard that 5.5L twin turbo nonsense before, and what they're supposedly talking about is the BMW X5M and X6 M's twin turbo V8 engine thrown in a MINI the same way that people have Horseshoed LS1 engines into original minis in the past... it was an aftermarket deal though... lots of custom fabrication and someone has GOT to be a wizard with the ECU to make that work. If i had my guess, the only way that kinda massive power engine would ever find it's way into a MINI it'd be in the AWD Countryman and would most likely be Sequential Gearbox rather than Manual...

What engine would be 5.5L? The new v10 for the m5? I don't see how that could fit unless in the back like a Clio v6 or something and even then it might require a clubman size just to do it.

Hmm 5.5L turbo v10 in the back of a clubman? But I don't believe for a second that BMW did it.
