installing alta pulley

just ordered the 15% lite pulley kit from alta. (belt pulley v2 and tensioner stop) this will be the first performance engine mod on my 2005 british racing green mini. I already installed the M7 stut brace.

when i ordered the kit from alta, i couldn't resist the temptation, so i ordered the 19mm rear sway bar too.

still not sure about a cold air intake. I like being able to hear the stereo in my car, so i was thinking the jcw intake would be the best for me, except the price is insane. I have considered the dinan intake also. i like the oem look to the dinan intake and the price.

was also considering a newman cam.

Well here is a sound clip on M7 intake. I don't believe intakes will interrupt your music. Its only noticeable when you really get on it. Now for the pully make sure you buy colder plugs if not you could have problems with pre-detonation.

well alta sent me an invoice for the stuff i ordered. looks like the shipped the puller, belt and sway bar. gee the puller is going to do a lot of damn good since the 15% pulley is backordered! hope they ship the pulley soon. There is "free" rental on the puller, but you have to pay a deposit.

I also ordered some ngk plugs that are 1 heat range colder.

Then you should be good to go. Alta has very good instructions so you should be able to install pulley in 1-2hr depending on your skill level.

I ran into controversy with my own mini. After running for a long time with the colder plug after installing a 15% pulley I was shown that was the incorrect way to go. Hutchinson Speed showed that my plugs were to cold and that I should have stayed with the original plug heat range. I followed the majority of advise found here and on other forums only to find that it is bad advise to naturally assume to go colder with a pulley. In fact most every company that sells the pulleys do not even have a spark plug change recomendation. So why are so many asuuming this to be the way to go/ In my case the placement of the original plugs improved my emmisions, gas millage and power.
I am not trying to say any one person is wrong but only to check out the company you got your pully from and ask them what they recommend.

Mine and my friends cold air system are quit except when you are hard into the peddle and then even the wind is loud. Find some minis that you see around and if they have one ask for a ride and see what you think. That would be the best way to make a choice.

my pulley arrived from alta a few days ago. installed it last night. started around 10pm and finished at 2am. not the easiest job. i did the job without the tensioner tool. anyway the alta pulley has 5- 5mm bolts but only came with 4 split washers. I need to call alta today and get another one. I just put loctite on one of the pully bolts for now until I can get a washer. only took the car for a 4 minute drive last night when i got finished. runs good. I still have the factory plugs installed.

Because people spout off a lot of information without really understanding what they are saying. With a 15% pulley stock plugs are fine and I never really recommend changing them. However, there are folks here that are adamant about doing it for some odd reason yet there is no proof that it does anything for the engine. Colder does not mean better....

called alta today. they are getting me another washer asap. also had to call to get the return authorization number for the pulley removal tool.

car seems to run fine with the standard plugs. probably won't put the colder range plugs in until these wear out.

i also have the alta 19mm rear sway bar ready to go on. maybe next week I'll get around to installing it.
