Shark Injector needs a 15% pulley?

Hi all,

I have a 2005 MCS that I would love to use a Shark Injector for the ECU to optimize it either 91 or 93 octane fuel.

According to Shark's official website, I need to have a 15% pulley installed on my MINI before using the ECU upgrade:
http://www.sharkinjectordirect.com/#MINI

BUT, on the product listing on MiniMania, there is no mention of a 15% pulley being required for the upgrade. (Also, notice the nifty price hike!)
http://new.minimania.com/web/Item/NME4100/InvDetail.cfm

Any thoughts, guys?

Don't do shark injector. Get a custom tune down the road. Get a 15% pulley first if you are looking for power.

There are MUCH better options than the shark Injector.......That being said the company that makes and tunes the Shark system is about 40 miles from where I live. If you had a BMW, I'd say do it....But on a MINI, the shark is Iffy at best. If you want more power...get the 15% pulley, or a 17% if it fits your driving style....you will be VERY happy. It is Cheaper than a shark...and you get more power, and better drive-ability. Period.
Then if you want more, do a CAI, maybe an exhaust, or a custom tune.

The Shark InjectorTM is compatible with many different modifications: most supercharger pulleys, cold air intake kit, cat-back exhaust, and others so there is no need to re-tune your car after every modification. This is the easiest software tool available for the Mini Cooper S with only a battery charger required for installation. Among the other benefits is the ability to restore your car back to stock for trips to the dealer. Choose from 91 or 93 minimum octane. Comes with comprehensive installation instructions. Works on all 2002-2006 R53 Cooper S (except automatic transmission)!!

Translation....it is a very generic canned tune....means there will not be much of an improvement. I have heard a few "folk in the know" that says in the MINI, about the only thing the shark does is advance the timing....it supposedly DOES NOT CHANGE the maps...like on a custom or Dino tune......I'd look elsewhere.....and you can NEVER sell it used...it becomes tied to your car's Vin #.

Heck...., some afternoon, drive to Detroit....and get the pulley done by Detroit Tuned....then get a tune if you want one....you will be Very happy!!

100% agree ^^^

When I read Shark Injector & MiniMania the JAWS theme started playing in my head, Da da.... Da Da..... Da da..... as they circle your wallet ready to attack. Swim away and get out of the "crap can tune" ocean quickly.

A custom dyno tune is the only way to go.

Agreed on avoiding the Shark (or maybe Shart?). Talk to Mr. Detroit Tuned about DME tuning, he knows a thing or two.

Don't do it... it's $ down the drain. I had it on my BMW and it did NOTHING for me.

Contact Chad at Detroit Tuned and he will have an option for ya...

Definetly have Chad install a pulley for you that will be your biggest bang for the buck.
Pass on the shark injector, all it does is advance the timing map a bunch and bump the rev limiter.
If your looking for a cheap and moderate ecu tuning option. We offer our Quicktune service that will improve performance slightly and majorly improve drivability. Then the next step we offer is our full custom tune. We now have our remote modules available to be able to mail people tunes too.

Hey, guys.

The one thing that appealed to me about the Shark Injector is that it removed the top speed limiter. I'm not really familiar with that kinda thing, is there any other way I could get rid of the limiter?
