Exhaust Opinions Needed

I going to upgrade the stock exhaust on my daily driver MCS but can't decide which exhaust to get. I have watched/listened to numerous YouTube videos of Borla, Magnaflow, Invidia, Supersprint, ect exhausts, but cannot decide.

I would like the drone at cruising speeds to be minimal. For example I don't mind if its a little louder than stock, but nothing where someone in the back seat would need to yell in order for me to hear them. I would however, like the exhaust to really open up and growl when I get on the throttle.

If you have experience with exhausts on R56 MCS's would you please let me know your impressions/suggestions.

Thanks.

buy a factory JCW exhaust (800ish retail no drone and if you have a catless downpipe it sounds evil when at full throttle) not the jcw stage one exhaust .

All the sound is in the downpipe the catback is just along for the ride

What about the Exhaust Depot turbo catback exhaust with CEL free downpipe? $1,135 shipped for this system. Seems like decent package.

Get the Riss Racing (ceramic) catless down pipe.

It will help channel a lot of heat generated by your turbo away from the engine bay. Therefore helping to minimize heat soak.

I accidently touched my heat shield the other day 2 minutes after shutdown. What would have normally burned me for sure, didn't even sting. I touched it again to confirm.

Don't mess with Riss's exhaust though. Its has fitment and drone issues.

I have a R56 S I called Morristown about the JCW exhaust and they told me it was $420.33 plus the tips and clamps. I added it up to about $625 but they guy told me i would have to cut my stock exhaust to put this on. I was just wondering what this involves?

?? The Factory JCW exhaust has the tips welded on. You need the clamp if you don't get the new one welded on. You do have to cut the old one off, unless you get both front and rear JCW mufflers. You could then weld them together or clamp 'em.

Yea I don't know the guy said it was 96 for each tip and 11 for the clamps. I am not sure what is necessary to put the JCW exhaust on an S so i posted that. Has anyone on here done this mod?

I ordered it from them for about $350-ish shipped for the rear muffler only. Make sure you have the right part number.

I think most of the 'improved' sound of the factory JCW exhaust comes from the lack of a second cat, changing just the rear section isn't going to give you the same sound. The other goodness is the ecm tuning, unique to the JCW's and Euro MCS's, that gives it the pop & burble. You'll need RMW's latest tune to get that.

So getting the front and rear muffler jcw would be ideal for the sound?

ideal sound is pretty subjective, but the factory JCW exhaust is very nice. It's not overly loud or farty, but it's got a lot more presence than the regular MCS system or the stage 1 JCW exhaust.

If you're not after bigger exhaust tips and on a budget, you could always get a muffler shop to delete the 2nd cat or both the second cat & resonator from the stock system. I've found that most of the aftermarket systems are lacking in the fitment, quality, or sound catagories. Eg. the Alta turbo back sounded awesome on my Mini, except for the drone on the highway, the constant CEL's, and the clanking & scrapping of the giant center resonator. The ED cat-back sounded pretty good at first, but got very loud as it broke in, and then the hangers buckled and tore off under it's weight.

I didn't get the front JCW muffler, but I regret that, especially since I got the new JCW welded to my stock front section. Will have to order it and get that corrected now!

How about the Stratmosphere Exhaust? I've been very pleased with mine after 30,000 miles.

True true. If one is not jonesing for a JCW exhaust, most people are better off having a skilled welder make up a system for them. It will cost less, fit perfect, and you can use any muffler you want!

Yea I was also looking at other exhausts, especially the Stratmosphere, but I was more interested in trying to keep away from any waranty problems at the dealer. I also liked the sound of the JCW I think i saw it for like 899 at detroit tuning im not sure which site it was. Is that the same as getting the front and rear muffler from the dealer or is that a different system?
