My only option...more or less

So, I have the 09 JCW Mini...and I love it..."wouldn't change a thing on it"... well at least that is what I said when I bought it....but first it started out with blacking everything out... little changes.

Now I want to do engine mods...ugg. Simple ones nothing over the top, being that I have a JCW I don't plan on doing anything with the exhaust, its loud and perfect in my opinion. My plans are for an intake (possibly NM engineering) and a bov...yes I know these mods are mostly feel good modifications...small amounts of HP gain, mostly sound but it will make me smile (not that this car can't already do that, but it will probably help wipe that smirk off the kid that thinks hes gods gift to neighborhood and his stock jetta is really the Bugatti Venyon), again though mostly for my entertainment.

WARRANTY...now that I have your attention I have decided this is the only way to do this. I will have all my oil...and such services done by my local auto shop..qualified people with a good reputation (while making all work well documented), and for any thing that may ever need a warranty dealing well then...stock goes back on...life is good.

I don't know if their is feedback in any of this that you can provide...so I'm kinda just saying that's the plan...and I'm going to stick to it.

do not do a blowoff valve on a Jcw!

1. dos intake(biggest hp gain and best sound for a intake) or a ddm ris intake

2.forge or helix intercooler

3.riss, supersprint or m2 powerhouse(sounds very mean, huge gain) Downpipe(single biggest bolt on gain is in the downpipe)

4.RMW JCW tune

5.RMW aquamist or AEM meth injection

Stick with the stock exhaust for now(makes power ,LOUD but no drone)

What's the m2 powerhouse DP?

Also, how much gain should one expect from a catless downpipe on a stock JCW?

M2 MOTORSPORTS is toying with the idea of marketing a downpipe based on the design I run in my Jcw.28whp gain and 23wtq gain with the the M2pipe. 10 to 20 with the other downpipes.

1. Why no bov on JCW...I was thinking the Helix 13... the one that replaces the "factory noise maker"

2. I like the NM engineering intake adds some hp, looks nice and easily maintained...the dod requires we to drill a hole in the car...it may be nice but I'm not a big fan of that... also wont help when I'm trying to hide mods from the dealer.

3. downpipe, maybe further in the future...that is something I feel that wont be easy to take on and off if I need to.

4. & 5. RMW is great...maybe after my warranty has expired... otherwise this car is everyday use at the moment...probably can't hide any of that from the dealer.

I like your suggestions and stuff...but this is like me asking you for just one joint and you saying, "how about crack?"...there is a big leap there.

EDIT...
Intercooler at some point further down the line...I do like the helix one.

We don't sell the BOV as a power mod--we sell it as an improved noisemaker. Personally I'm not a big fan of cosmetic doo-dads, but in this case I really enjoyed the BOV on my R56. If you are more focused upon pure performance, the intercooler (and, if you can believe this: I think the Helix intercooler is the best ) will be a better investment.

Also, have you done a rear swaybar? It's not as sexy, but it's the schmidt.

Hi,

Clint from DoS here.

Just to clarify, we don't ask anyone to drill a hole in their car. (We're not a big fan of that either.) It's just a hole cut in the 2nd Gen MINI's easily replaceable bulkhead panel.

There are a few options with the DoS CAI if you want to switch from a modded to a 'bone stock' look:

A) You can very affordably buy a spare bulkhead panel from your dealer or Classic in OH and cut the hole in the panel yourself via our hole saw loaner program (free tool loan-out from us).

-or-

B) You can order a pre-modded bulkhead panel from DoS.

If you like the NM, go for it. I'm not going to do the NAM equivalent of a headlock and noogies until you like my product. I just wanted to set the record straight.

Have fun modding! Sounds like you have exciting things in store for your MINI!

-Clint

Fine I'll look into the downpipe...

I will probably be putting the helix bov into my car... I know and knew before that its more or less a pure sound mod... although from what I have it can help with the turbo and recycling so that in my opinion is a good enough on its own...and when I invest in an intercooler further down the line it will probably help with the added performance by the turbo.

As far as the intake goes I will do some more research... I know the bulkhead is replaceable... I like the idea that the NM one that comes with a boost tube... although this is not anything super important. I'm gona look at the ddm intake also... I don't think I gave that one a fair enough look over yet

I like the new Alta boost tube...I'm guessing that it would work just fine with the dos intake if I were to go that route

wow. If you don't mind an australian beta-tester, I'm happy to put one in.

Btw redbull,

if anything, the DoS intake looks more stock than the NM. The NM is a blue filter in the wide open, the DoS is a black enclosed filter (and actually makes power).

I'm not really looking for it to "look stock" the dealer would still notice that that is not the original intake... I would take it out and put back in the original parts...

I'm going to keep looking... I need to take my Mini to the dealer soon any way as my windows are acting up... and that would be a warranty issue... I will take care of that before I do anything.

Yeah I did ask my SA and some other nearby Mini ones, thay all more or less said don't do it...I would take it off if their was a problem but say I went to have an oil change and I had the aftermarkets on... then 2 weeks or even a year later I go back with a crapped out turbo...no aftermarkets...but when I when prior I did, then they would probably have record of that when I had the oil changed I would think.

But whatever I'll have it serviced locally...

Anyone know where I could locate some installation instructions for the riss supersprint downpipe?

3 Bolts,2 o2 sensors and a v band. if you need instructions for this easy mod you need to buy a Volvo.

Have you taken your car to dealer yet with your JCW Recaro seats installed?

I give redbullfx2 props for asking about installation. It's good to know what you're getting into.

Exactly, one of my deals with mods is knowing exactly how everything works and how it goes on. I know it looks simple, but I don't want to mess anything up.

I'm guessing that you would suggest the downpipe w/o a cat? No one ever answered that question.

Also with that downpipe any problems with a CEL?

Thanks for all the help and suggestions guys.

Regarding my previous questions...don't bother... I looked into the downpipe...CEL's and the whole not street legal part.

I would like to note that I'm not serious into racing this thing...I feel that my car has enough power to keep me entertained... I'm more or less looking for feel good mods, some (as in very little) hp gain, and sound that is about it, set it and forget it.

Hey Clint from DoS, quick question... other then the superior performance that the DoS intake provides...so I have been told, I heard it makes some pretty mean noise... any sound clips to back this up???

Thanks again.

If you have any advice of a mod that is simple, inexpensive, comes with a nice set of instructions (one's like a picture book) and wont set of CEL's then please speak up... I'll listen

Sure. No problem. If you type either DoS or Defenders of Speed in the YouTube search bar about 5-to-6 different clips come up.

http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=Defenders+of+Speed&search_typ e=&aq=f

The only clip that we haven't put on there is highway cruise with the noise baffle. It's been a crazy last few weeks in prep for MINI Thunder and AMVIV. Irmiger and I just ran out of time to record it.

Clint, thanks... I going to weigh all my options this week and see what my car enthused friends have to say when I see them... thanks for all your help... if i go the DoS route I will sure be calling you (and probably ask even more questions before I place an order).

I'm going to keep browsing, I'm in no rush.

Stickers, thanks I'll be sure to look into that... I figure you should clean the window first... would you recommend elthyl or isoprop alcohol, I guess I should call alta first too to see how much they weigh and if they ran a dyno on them to see if I'll loose any hp due to drag. Should I place them evenly on both sides also? I dunno, I'm just checking all my info here. Do they come in red... I heard that adds at least 10 hp.
