Clint, I have been looking at your intake design and have a few questions. First off, I like the design. It is very straight through, with little loss due to unnecessary bends. But this straight through design makes the system have to be attached to the fire wall. (Bulk Head) Is there any form of a slip joint in this system to account for substantial motor movement? Also, how much water would you consider a lot? Would you not suggest taking the car through a car wash without a hydrophobic wrap?

Thanks, Ben

Hi Ben,

I think that I just shot you an email about this, but here are some details for others:

The cone is designed to float and be cushioned in the supplied weatherstrip lining the bulkhead panel hole. Further cushioning of the cone is supplied by the corrugations of the factory inlet hose options or the damping quality of an aftermarket silicone inlet hose.

I haven't encountered the car wash question before - probably because a fair number of our customers will only hand-wash their cars/'babies'. (My "inner detailer" talking there). In any case, The car wash is not a huge area of concern.

Most car washes no not allow you to have your engine running when you get dragged through the nozzles and/or brushes of doom, so that eliminates a potential concern from water jet somehow sneaking one past the goalie. Secondly, the hood itself protects these vents quite well from water. Finally, once you come out of the car wash, your MINI's rain gutters and water channels will have done their job and little to no H2O will be anywhere near the vents.

We have quite a few customers who live in areas with super-torrential rain that have felt no ill effects. (If they're reading, perhaps they can comment.)

Best,

-Clint

Thanks, I wasn't aware of the weather stripping. And as for the car wash... My car will never see one, I just thought that it would be a good example.

Why would you spend $ on oil change and other services when your car is still under the 50k mile free maintenance ? I don't think the intake gonna harm your car in anyway, especially when you don't track your car. You sound very concerning about the warranty on your car so I'm pretty sure you won't track it. Just go ahead and get the DoS intake and you will love it.

Well...I got the parts I got, and I'm sticking to my decisions. I got the Helix BOV and Intercooler and I went with the NM engineering Intake and discharge pipe. Sorry guys at dos, your information was more than helpful, and I will probably be going through several Mini coopers through my life time. I also installed a nice set of M7 mesh grilles.

The car looks great and sounds even better...some parts on the inside lower part of my front bumper were cracked...I know exactly when that happened too...but we used some epoxy and got them all straightened out... did some paint work to hide the red behind the grille. Everything went pretty smooth.

I made a you tube video, sound qualtiy is not great...but it works...sounds much better in person, sorta like classical music.

I'm happy that I went with DoS CAI. Put it on Sport Mode and the car just wanna launch. My hard earned money is well spent.
I gotta give Clint an A+ for customer service.
