Tuning

I am looking for a good tune for my 07. I am in Jacksonville, Florida. I really don't want to spend a fortune but, I want a good tune. Any suggestions?

I'm pretty sure most of us would rather play with Jan for $600-800 instead of getting hosed with a Stage 1 kit. The risk and gains over the Stage 1 are absolutely worth it.

$1700 for a JCW tune. I think I just vomited in my mouth a bit...

A Littlebird told me that RMW may have a tune party at Macedo Motorsports in Orlando area in the next couple of weeks.

Contact Jan if you want a tune

If you can not do the install I am sure that the shop hosting the tune can install it.

Labour is 100 per hour flat rate.

Yeah that's not a rip off when you consider all the expenses that go into running a shop. Of course it's cheaper to do it yourself, if it wasn't, then why would people do it?

What makes it a rip off is that it is about a 45 minute job and they will make sure to take 2 to 3 hours.

It is a 30-45 minute job depending on how many beers you have

A Mini dealer will work you like that but a good Tuning shop will not.

When I went to put the Dented Alta one on my car it took me 10 minutes to get the bumper and stock intercooler. Thats when I found that the Alta intercooler was dented and had to put it back together and that took me like 20 minutes

True, but you don't need a special shop to install an intercooler.

There is certain things I would take my car to the shop for. Mostly because I am too lazy or just don't want to do it but, there is a lot that I will do on my car myself because it is fun and the MINI is one of the easiest cars I have ever worked on, mechanically speaking.

...it's a pretty straight forward install. I did mine in about 3 hours, yet I really took my time and most of my time was spent identifying where the various rivets and bolts that had to be removed were located. Once you know that it's a breeze. I actually found that it only took about 1/2 hour to put everything back together ..all my time was spent trying to figure out how everything comes apart. If I were to do another intercooler install I'd bet I could do it in less than an hour no prob-

working on cars is therapuetic for me ...after spending all day in front of a computer or on conference calls I NEED time hanging in the garage w/a few beers and some rockn' music.

This is the truest statement I've heard in a very long time.

I completely disagree.

It may be expensive to you because it took you 45 minutes but after being in the bodyshop business for over 25 years, I assure you that if you're in business, you've got to cover overhead, problems and time.

Assuming they charge an hours labor (though you did it in 45 minutes, on average it would take at least an hour) At most shop's rate of 100-150 an hour, it's a fair price.

You can never compare a job that someone is doing in their garage compared to a shop who has hundreds of thousands of dollars invested and expect them to compete pricewise... that's just plain ridiculous.

It took me about an hour and a half, I wasn't in a hurry but I had to make a few modifications, if I were a dealer or custom installer, there is no way I'd do it for less than a hundred bucks.

I have no idea why people think people are in business to make money.
