What would happen if I had someone cut out the two stock mufflers in series and just use one muffler strait to the end, as a result shortening the distance the exhaust needs to travel and decreasing resistence?

Looks like this

Helix13 is selling the "one ball" for about $325 installed (has mandrel bend before the muffler from the center pipe using a jig for proper alignment. HP est are from 2 to 5 HP and loudness is just above stock.

Ive seen that, but that is not what I had in mind. I wanted to change the muffler and put an aftermarket carbon fiber muffler that weighs a lot less.

You can put in any muffler you want with whatever bends you want but there are no guarantees that what you create will work any better than stock no matter how loud it is. Sure it will be lighter and maybe you will loose low end rpm power in the process. You'll find out once you test it.

Exhaust companies spend alot of time and resources doing R&D on their systems to get it right for each model of MINI.

Besides cat-back designs there are some non cat-back mufflers like the Devil from Diamond Racing and Remus from MossMini.com

And if you want a truely custom design that is straight through and back like a line then read this-
